We’ll be doing a tour of New Zealand over the Christmas holiday period (Auckland, Bay of Islands, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Mount Cook, Dunedin, Te Anau). We are with four small kids (4-10), but they’ve eaten at nice places before. Is there anything to really check out in one of these places? Lonely Planet doesn’t seem to be all that forthcoming with great recommendations…

For Wellington, the Hippopotamus (http://www.hippopotamus.co.nz/) (the best fine dining in Wellington IMO), the Ortega Fish Shack (http://ortega.co.nz/) (great seafood restaurant) or, for something good but a little further down market, Charlie Noble (http://www.charleynoble.co.nz/) would be my suggestions.
