Greyscale Wines - Berserker Deals Extended!

#1 Post by larryrowe » January 19th, 2017, 3:55 pm

Greyscale Wines is a small boutique Napa Valley winery that sells premium, award-winning wines sourced from high quality grapes. We produce a Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon that is refined, elegant and great with food and a Merlot with blackcurrant and cherry aromas and juicy blackberry, cherry, and espresso tastes. Lastly, we produce a Cuvée Blanc that is a semi-oaked Sauvignon Blanc blended with Sémillon, which is our take on a Bordeaux Blanc. For more info, see our Newbie page.

We put together offerings that are sure to please - high-quality wines discounted up to 30%! Shipping is $10 for 1-5 bottles and included in the price for 6 or more bottles. A limited quantity of the award winning ‘13 Greyscale Rutherford Cabernet is available (5 cases), so you are limited to one 6-pack per customer. Order early or you will miss out! Notify us if you want to buy more than one 6-pack, and we will put you on a waiting list.

More Details

2013 Greyscale Rutherford Cabernet
2013 is the second year we sourced cabernet grapes from one of the finest vineyards in Rutherford. The vines are over 20 years old. The rootstock is grafted with Clone 4 Cabernet grapes which produce wines with a dark deep color, black fruit, excellent acidity and minerality, and a long finish.

The 2013 Greyscale Rutherford Cabernet is a medium- to full-bodied wine with a complex nose of ripe black fruit and notes of toasted oak and subtle clove spice. On the palate, the wine is bright in spice, cedar, and blackcurrant notes with soft, structured tannins. It has a lush mouth-feel with a long finish (tasting card). The Wine Enthusiast review is available at review.

The blend is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon to which 6% Merlot was added to support the mid-palate, and 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec were added to enhance the fruit intensity on the finish. The wine was aged for 21 months in French Oak barrels (Vicard, 60% new) and racked several times to clarify the wine and soften the tannins. The 2013 Greyscale Rutherford Cabernet was bottled in August 2015 and aged for 12 months in the bottle before being released in September 2016.

2014 Greyscale Napa Valley Merlot
2014 is the first Merlot produced by Greyscale. Our goal was to produce a right-bank Bordeaux-style wine with a complex structure of red and black fruit.

The Merlot grapes come from Orchard Vineyard - west of Highway 29 in the Oak Knoll District. Because the vineyard is near the Mayacamas Mountain benchland, it has a significant component of alluvial soil that contains organic material which makes the area quite fertile. Temperatures are cooler than farther north in the valley but not as cool and damp as vineyards in Carneros that are closer to the San Francisco Bay. The vines are grafted with Merlot clone 181 that traces its origins to Pomerol.

The 2014 Greyscale Merlot is a Gold Medal winning blend of 93% Merlot from Orchard Vineyard, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. The wine has a dark red color with blackcurrant and cherry aromas integrated with earthy, nutty, and chocolate notes. The taste is layered with juicy blackberry, cherry, espresso, and clove with subtle tannins and a smooth, fruit-driven mouthfeel (tasting card).

This wine pairs well with pasta, chicken, and pork. The wine is drinking well now but will continue to improve for many years and will last 10-15 years.

2014 Greyscale Cuvée Blanc
Our goal is to produce a white wine with more depth and complexity than typical Sauvignon Blancs (e.g., Loire, New Zealand or Australia) but not as much taste intensity as an oaked Chardonnay. Greyscale Cuvée Blanc is a perfect wine for sipping or with a light meal such as pasta or asian food.

Greyscale Cuvée Blanc is a partially barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc (SB) blended with Semillon. The SB grapes are sourced from the Dalla Gasperina vineyard in Rutherford. The soils are a mosaic of gravelly loam and sand along with volcanic and marine sediments. The wines produced from this vineyard display crisp citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon-lime. The barrel-fermentation and Semillon add depth, complexity, and stone fruit notes (e.g., peach and apricot).

Two-thirds of the SB was fermented in a neutral French Oak barrel - 1 or more years old. The remaining SB was fermented in stainless steel which allowed the crisp, fresh citrus fruit to emerge. The SB was combined and aged for 15 months in French Oak barrels (50% new). The lees were stirred every 2-3 weeks for 10 months to keep the wine fresh and encourage additional depth and complexity. Semillon was added to provide richness and honey and toasty notes (tasting card).

#8 Post by larryrowe » January 27th, 2017, 2:30 pm

We only have 4 6-packs of the Greyscale Wines '13 Rutherford Cabernet left for sale. Get your order in or you will miss out on a fantastic wine. Besides winning many awards and accolades, this wine uses cabernet grapes from 25 year old vines from a vineyard that other wineries charge $95 - $200 per bottle. You won't be disappointed in this $50 wine!

If someone wants more than one 6-pack, PM/Post me and I'll add you to the waiting list. We will likely run out of this wine in May or June this year. When we get to the end, we will try to fulfill all requests on the waiting list.
