Old-Vine Carignan and High Altitude Pinot Noir- The Princess & the Peasant

#1 Post by Stephanie Rivin » January 17th, 2017, 7:16 pm

Hiya Folks!

With Princess and the Peasant wines, we aim to celebrate the diversity of the Mendocino County viticultural landscape and winemaking heritage. Our 2015 Signal Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir is sourced from grapes grown at the very margins of elevation and climate, at almost 3000 feet in elevation and only 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The 2015 Poor Ranch Carignan is sourced from 74 year old dry farmed vines, and is a unique expression of a variety perfectly adapted to its terroir.

In honor of Berserker Day we are offering 30% discount on any wines purchased, and penny shipping. Click here to visit the Signal Ridge website, where I am also the winemaker, to purchase. All wines on the site are similarly discounted.

Princess and the Peasant was the featured Mendocino winery in the Bay Area News Group's Mendocino County travel edition a few Sundays ago.

Fellow Berserker Drew Goin had some nice things to say. Thanks Drew!

Or you can read more about us in our NEWBIE post http://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/vie ... 1&t=136847

Thank you all for your time and to the team at Wine Berserkers for making this possible. Cheers!

Awesome, glad to see the overall discount. I wouldn't order the other package with the white and rose, but I'll definitely order reds tomorrow.

Hi David-
We figured this was the best way to make it worthwhile for folk to try us out...it's not listed on the website anymore, but we have just under 5 cases left of the 2014 P&P wine available. If you have any interest let me know as we can include it in the shipment

All the best,
Stephanie

Urg, I can't get online until about 10 am.

Fingers crossed.

Is there much left of the pinot noir, zin, and carignan?

Berserker Day can be nerve wracking.

Best wishes manana!

All our barrels are very well seasoned French oak. In fact I think 2 barrels were given to us by fellow Berserker Joe Webb of Foursight wines

We haven't ever tired to age this varietal in new oak...but I am always up for experimenting, and now you have gotten it in my mind! Let's see where 2017 takes us

After you select the carignan, scroll to the bottom of the screen. There's box with the subtotal and a + sign to add a code for discount...enter BERSERKERS30 and it should discount the wine...then proceed to check out.

Oh Good! Glad it was working. For the 2014, we would be selling out of our "library" stash- which means I have to sneak into the cellar in the middle of the night without Dan finding me riffling through boxes and selling off our wine. You'll know if I was successful when your box arrives :)

Hi Jeff- you got it! Thank you for the order! The 14 and 15 growing season were so vastly different, I think it'll be really fun to taste the difference. And like choosing between one's children- I can't tell which one I prefer.

Thanks for asking! This is a variety that is prone to rustic, edgy tannins and we wanted to avoid that style. As such, we wanted to be very careful in limiting extraction during the primary fermentation process. The grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented in small lots at very cool temperatures. The resulting wine is fruit focused, juicy, and very bright (Carignan holds its acid incredibly well in warm climates). This (2015) was our first vintage working with this vineyard, so I just don't have the historic sample size to refer to...but...it's tasting so damn good now. My gut says from pretty much now to 6 years from the vintage is a good drinking window, to take advantage of the freshness and downright deliciousness of the wine. That being said, we'll lay some library wines down for sure and I'll report back to you with our findings!

Hi Matt- Not sure how I missed this one, but no problemo on swapping out a 14 PN for a 15 PN! I plan on getting the rest of the CA orders out the door on Monday. I'll send you an email with your tracking info.

Thanks!

Can't wait! Stephanie also switched out a 15 Carignan with a 2014 10,000 buddas that I am pretty excited about trying/saving, what to do? [cheers.gif]

Thanks Stephanie!
