Harrington's Carnival of Lost Vines - three BerserkerDay specials!

HARRINGTON’S CARNIVAL OF LOST VINES

The Back Story: After years of toiling under the omnipotent idols of California Pinot Noir, things got a little strange in 2008 when a little Nebbiolo crept into the crypt. We lavished all the same tender love and affection on that Nebbiolo that had previously been reserved for Pinot and produced a credible Nebbiolo (not Barolo, but not bad). And so a naked new truth was revealed: there is liquid gold up in those hills and a fresh mission was born to breathe new life into California’s lost viticultural history.

TWENTY-FOUR LINES ABOUT TWELVE WINES
Corvina: A rare Corvina vineyard in California, this wine connects the Veneto to the New World.
As a progeny of Pinot Noir, expect a lighter tint, but stunning raspberry fruit and aromatics of fresh strawberry and dried rose petal.
Mission: California’s oldest Vinifera survivor brought to the Americas by the Spanish back in the 1500s.
Carbonic fermentation brings watermelon in a glass to the table. A whole cluster ferment brings the structure.
Trousseau: Aromatically complex with dried rose petals, cranberry, black currant and bramble.
Flavors of cherry compote, black tea, damp earth with structured, fragile tannins.
Carignane: Lover’s Lane Vineyard planted in the 1930s and dry-farmed organically.
Depth and fruit are not a problem here, with berry, currant, strawberry, mulberry, nutmeg and a bit of earth.
Grenache: Sourced from a ridge of uplifted river gravel comprised of limestone and granite.
Our best Grenache yet, with graceful aromas of pure red cherry and delicate, precise flavors of cherry compote, raspberry, ruby-red grapefruit and orange rind.
Mourvedre: Sourced from the high-altitude Sumu Kaw Vineyard at 3000 feet, this wine was fermented whole-cluster.
A robust wine with aromas of dried boysenberry, lavender, dried tobacco and flavors of black cherry, saddle leather and cracked pepper.
Lagrein: Lagrein is a direct descendant of Teroldego and related to Syrah, Corvina and Pinot Noir.
Inky blue-black in color with full-bodied, soft velvety flavors of wild berry, cherry, violets, chocolate and leather.
Terrane Nebbiolo: A no-added-sulfite wine made from organically-grown grapes from Luna Matta Vineyard in Paso Robles.
A full-throttle Nebbiolo in aromatic overdrive with great depth of fruit and a user-friendly California structure.
Zinfandel: Sourced from Mendocino Ridge’s Zeni Ranch vineyard planted in the the 1800s.
A bevy of mixed blacks join ancient Zinfandel to create a subtle, yet complex expression of low alcohol Zin – new direction Zinfandel.
Aglianico: Sourced from a Sierra Foothills vineyard dedicated to growing Italian varieties.
Appropriately tannic for a young Aglianico, the wine is deeply herbal with a broad attack and a good candidate for the cellar.
Pinot Noir: A limestone vineyard located 1.5 miles from the coast, the Pinot produced from this site is unlike most Santa Cruz Mountains Pinots.
Think lighter color, floral aromatics, more delicate flavors, subtle fine-boned tannins.
Cabernet Sauvignon: One of California’s oldest Cabernet vineyards planted 60 years ago on a gravel ridge comprised of limestone and granite.
Picked at 23 Brix and aged for 10 months in Neutral French oak, this is not a Napa Cabernet.

Harrington's Carnival of Lost Vines - three BerserkerDay specials

This was a past BD purchase. Solid across the board. The guy doesn't make a bad wine.
  • 2012 Harrington Nebbiolo - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (12/20/2015)
What a great little bottle of Cali Nebbiolo. Very precise and elegant bottle. Beautiful bright cherry core with round tannins and medium acid. Wish I had more and would definitely let a few age. Even better because the winemaker is a really nice guy.
  • 2013 Harrington Lagrein Berardo Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (6/21/2015)
Extremely vibrant purple color. Nose shows a bit of game, like a Mourvèdre. Fruit profile is ripe raspberry and blackberry. This will stain your teeth. Strong foundation of calcium mineral. Good savory quality yet delicious fruit.
  • 2013 Harrington Trousseau Siletto Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Cienega Valley (3/29/2015)
Crystalline cranberry color. Nose isn't giving up much, muted red berry. Light weight mouthfeel with high acid. There's strong red berry, tart cranberry and mineral notes. Angular and tart. Bravo. (92 pts.)
  • 2013 Harrington Lagrein Berardo Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (2/24/2015)
Falltacular 2015 (FMIII in the OC): Very dark, reminds me of a dolcetto. This is approachable right now. I have a bottle of this and will spend more time with it later.
  • 2013 Harrington Nebbiolo - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (2/24/2015)
Falltacular 2015 (FMIII in the OC): Wow, this is a nice Nebbiolo. You'd never guess california. This needs time in the cellar and has the structure to easily age. Saving this for a pasta night, no doubt. Excellent effort.
  • 2013 Harrington Pinot Noir Coast Grade Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (1/30/2015)
Pop n pour. Light cherry color. If you love strawberries then this wine has the nose for you, a muddled berry, and even a hint of strawberry shortcake. Heading over to the palate I'm curious. Wow, is this tasty. Strawberry, rhubarb, prickly fine tannins, light toast, and stem flavor. There a lot of acid mid palate, that's a good thing. The finish is very long and the tannins are lightly nipping my tongue throughout. Weight is medium, you won't find any goopy syrup here probably because the acid, extremely clean. Is this an early indicator for '13 PN from Santa Cruz? Let's hope that's the case.

Hi Adam, thanks for checking in. I think this year's wines are even better than the ones we offered last year. Shipping is not included in the prices shown, since it varies by different parts of the country. You can email Bryan Harrington (his email is shown in the offer) if you want to get the exact shipping cost to you.

Thanks again, and cheers! [cheers.gif]

A quick note - I just heard from Bryan Harrington that there's some difficulty at the moment with the PayPal payment option, but he's working on it and hopefully it will be resolved very quickly. Thanks for your patience!

Was going to jump in until the dreaded "Sorry, we cannot ship to AL." Makes me sad every time I see it.

Sorry about that, Mandy. It's a bummer that we can't ship to all states.

Unfortunate, for sure. Some wineries can, and some can't. Some have to ship to the state store instead of directly to the customer. Do you guys have distribution anywhere in the southeast?
