Four Roses Single Barrel Grand Cru Private Selection “Adam’s Pick”
My Four Roses representative offered up a bit of a different way to go about picking our 2nd barrel this go around. The first go around I focused in on one specific recipe (Four Roses is unique in that they have 2 different mash bills and 5 different proprietary yeast strains resulting in 10 different Bourbons) and altered it with two different yeast strains. In all I got 5 different barrels of each and 10 wildly different Bourbons, I picked my favorite of each flight and then put those two together and picked my favorite. This time around Brian suggested sampling all 10 different recipes and pick a favorite from those samples.

I enlisted my friend Adam to help me pick. Not only is he my friend he is the unofficial spirits manager here and one hell of a Whiskey savant. We picked a day and tasted through the samples blindly and whittled it down to two. Much to Adam’s surprise, not only did I let him pick the winner, his name is on the bottle as well! He settled on an 11 year 2 month old that uses the high Rye OBSF mash bill/yeast combo that we couldn’t get enough of. Aromas of honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, black cherries, dried citrus peel, spearmint, dark chocolate and toasted oak spice. The palate explodes with the tell tale Rye spice, vanilla, baked apple pie and chocolate notes on the long lingering finish. Bottled at 117.2 proof and unchillfiltered to provide you with an exceptional, unadulterated Bourbon.

I’ve got a little bit of the Four Roses Single Barrel Grand Cru Private Selection “Adam’s Pick” I got this summer left and I’m getting at least one or maybe two more. Great stuff, and the notes above are accurate.

Bourbon and Bubbly!!! 'bout time!

Grabbed a couple of Bourbons. This closes out a 3 case, 2K day for wine (that last Wine Library offer was painful). Guess the discount was only good for one bottle. One for me and one for a gift, for the next SoCal Bourbon and Bacon offline.
