On the fence? Here's an endorsement: http://www.wineberserkers.com/forum/vie ... 08#p860308

And I'm pretty sure he'd have laughed at this usage. Cheers.

So which of you math whizzes can figure out how many permutations of 3-packs Todd can come up with, without ever repeating a trio? Is it just 15 to the third power?

I belive it's 455..
15*14*13 divided by 3*2*1.. as all 3 are unique bottles (so no 2 of the same bottle as a possibility).
could be wrong tho?

No, just 15*14*13, or 2730. That already eliminates the repeats of the same bottle. Allowing repeats would be 15*15*15. (Assuming there are sufficient bottles of every wine. Not stated, but probably not true)

The extra four bottles make it 2730+4

You gotta divide, otherwise a pack of (1, 2, 3) will be counted in addition to a pack of (3, 2, 1). 16 choose 3 is 16 *15 * 14 / 3 * 2, which is 560. It's not just about repeating the same bottle, it's about the fact that order doesn't matter.

Bangs forehead- Of course, different order does not make it unique for this purpose.
I shouldn't post when I'm rushing out on an errand.
