Cork vs Screwcap or ???

Mssr. Duroux:

Thank you for participating here.

What are your thoughts on the future of cork vs. screwcap or other alternative closures for long-lived wines like Palmer?

I think that screwcaps work perfectly and the reason why we don’t use them is just a marketing issue.

That is an amazing statement! (And one that I would agree with.)

Would you be open to having consumers, in the en primeur phase, to choose their bottle closure as well as the bottle format?

That’s an interesting question…

Wow, I’m not sure I can get my head around a screw cap closure for a wine that I might mature for 20+ years . . . .

This is one of my favourite topics at the moment. I hadn’t considered customer choice before.

I bought some wine recently from a winery that tried screw caps for the first time. They bottled a couple releases half with screw caps and half with corks so I got to choose. I chose screw caps.
