Anyone have anything to share re: Norma's I've never been and would appreciate any feedback.

Additionally, if anyone cares to comment on Brasserie 8 1/2, that'd be great, too.

One update in looking at the list on page 1. Colicchio and Sons is now closed. Used to be one of our faves. In its place L'atelier by Joel Robuchon has opened. Corkage is $150 (!) and can't be on their list.

Brasserie 8 1/2 has a byob menu on Sunday and Monday. Choices like filet of beef Wellington and foie gras for $38. No charge for one bottle per 2 people. Rest of menu is solid, but no surprises. Comfortable, dramatic interior, and quiet. I think the room has been spruced up and the menu upgraded. Service is spot on as always. Plus, easy to get a reservation.

Not the best reviews from a couple of friends. "Ridiculous prices for good, not great food."
Was nearly empty the night they were there.

Sorry to hear because probably my most memorable meal was around 25 years ago at his original restaurant in Paris.

Went to American Cut in TriBeCa last night. Excellent meal. Paid $40 corkage and it was well worth it given the prices on the wine list.

Two bottle limit per table and it can’t be a wine that’s on the list.

Dinner at Le French Diner at Nolita last Saturday. Tiny place, tight seating, but with some good French bistro items, meant for sharing, on the small menu. Good service.
BYOB at $35 per bottle, small/half-bulb stems.

Gigino at Wagner Park. Behind the Jewish Museum in Battery Park. $25/bottle. Not sure if limit. Accommodated us with a chiller for our one bottle. Commercial stems. Italian trattoria with fresh ingredients, good specials. Outdoor patio with great view. Reasonable considering location. European service in that you are not rushed. Reserve for weekend lunch and dinner.

Don Angie, an Italian-American themed restaurant in the West Village. $35 per bottle corkage, 2 bottles per table limit, stems not good. Food very good, though.

Gazala's Place on 9th Ave (betw 49th & 50th) - total dive Middle Eastern joint with inexpensive, tasty food and completely BYO. "Stems" are regular bar glasses so bring better wine glasses if that matters to you. Not your typical Mediterranean place. Very interesting paper-thin pita (almost looks like a crepe) and I saw people eating these phyllo pastry breads stuffed with spinach and cheese that looked incredible. They don't have a website, so i can't link to it.

Yes, agreed so many great dinners there.
43 years is a bit dishonest. The new management and ownership has only had the business maybe 3 years and made many changes. They still have the lease and will come up with a new concept.

Another email came in today saying La Mangeoire will stay open for another week due to the "incredible scramble from all our customers to come and say goodbye ..."

In the same email they say that, in September, they will be opening in the same space "with a new very special concept."

Paid $50 at Le Coq Rico on 7/11/18. Great option if you are looking for a more casual-type and quality
roasted chicken to pair with your red. I think corkage fee is a bit on high side for what the overall restaurant is, but I also think their wine list is priced absurdly high.

Wu's Wonton King. No charge corkage. Easier to park than at Peking Duck House (Mott St). And right next to "F" train stop on E. Broadway. Did not try the Peking duck, but it seemed like every other table did. Extra attention given to large groups, including nice stems and chillers. Good review in NY Times.

Not for my table of 2. I was given water goblets and a plastic water pitcher with ice. But a few large tables were set with stems and chillers and gold napkins. Maybe need to reserve in advance. Tables did not seem to be for a party.

I went last night and we enjoyed the food. Also, wine service was great - new stems for each bottle, and decanted as well. Would recommend champagne.gif

They've changed their menu since my last visit in the spring - so maybe they're trying to keep things fresh or business isn't booming. I made a reservation using this App "Seated" that gives you Amazon/Uber GC back in return for making reservations.

Any recommendations for a for a spot with private room for 20 that would allow bringing in outside wine for a fee? Price point reference is the Clocktower ($20 appetizer, $40 entrée). Should not be seafood, and be red-wine pairing friendly (preferably nebiollo, but perhaps Burgundy or Bordeaux).

Had an excellent meal at Avra Madison on Saturday. $40 per bottle corkage, with a 2 bottle limit and if one brings a wine that is on their list, the corkage = their list price. I solved that problem by bringing a 2010 MacDonald and a 2012 Kapcsandy Rapszodia 😁
