Recently procured an OWC of 2007 Larrivet Haut Brion Blanc and decided to pair a bottle with dinner this evening. Wine was a rich golden color, had pretty much no nose to speak of, and lacked any and all fruit character. So I thought, “oh well, maybe this bottle was premoxed”. So I opened a second and it wasn’t quite as golden, pretty much colored as expected, but it had the same lack of nose and lack of any redeemable character. I’m a regular consumer and fan of white Bordeaux - have vintages back to 1990 in the cellar. I appreciate the waxy, lanolin, savoriness that aged white Bordeaux can exhibit, but wasn’t expecting this from a relatively young 2007 vintage. Am I off base with my assumptions? My guess is heat damage.
