How/when are vintages released?

#1 Post by EHeffner » March 21st, 2018, 9:03 am

I am interested in a bottle of Cakebread Dancing bear ranch. The winery’s site lists the 2013 for sale. But when I google it, I see a whole bunch of 2014 in the wild. How would people have access to the newer vintage? Club membership? Just find it odd that so many bottles are on secondary market while the winery is missing a chance to sell me a 2014 as well as the 2013

Is this something that a lot of wineries do?

Yes, but still call them and let them know you are wanting to purchase from them. If its a decent quantity of say 3 or 6 bottles ++, they aren't going to turn you away because you aren't a member.

Maybe they would at the super high end of the market, but not at a Cakebread type place. (not knocking them specifically, as I love the DBR)

you'll see this is true for a lot of domestic producers for the same reason. i've also seen them hit different states at staggered intervals too, but wine club is the most common reason
