It automatically turns you into a Bud Light chugging douchebag.

Just discovered Maracame Anejo - if you can find it, get it. By far the smoothest tequila I've enjoyed, full of cinnamon and creme brûlée - this is absolutely fantastic stuff in every way. $55-60 is a steal for juice of this quality.

I go to Mexico pretty regularly- anyone have recommendations for Blancos/Platas to get over there that don't have wide distribution in the US? (or are significantly cheaper)

I prefer Don Julio’s regular anejo to the 1942. Too much wood on the latter.

Best tequilas out there IMO:

Fortaleza
G4
Arte Nom
Tequila Ocho

All will blow you away. If you want the easiest pure sipper, go with the anejo. The reposados are all amazing as well.

Tears of La Llorona <--- Outstanding
Don Pilar Extra Anejo <---- This one is outstanding as well, but I find Tears of la Llorona more complex
Fortaleza Anejo
Clase Azul Anejo
Don Julio Real

All these are excellent in my opinion.

So, the same guy apparently makes
G4
Pasote
Terralta
ArteNom

all in the same facility, with the only difference being importer/'ownership' and
differences in rainwater/springwater (G4 is 50/50, Pasote is 40/60, ArteNom 50/50, terralta is 0/100)

Thanks for the Tequila Ocho Repesado recommendation. I could only find it for around $63. My recommendations are now:

1. Don Julio 1942 $125
2. Corzo Anejo $56
3. Tequila Ocho Repesado $63

Just did a search for Tears of Llorona on wine-searcher. Cheezus Rice! That stuff is $250+ per bottle! I personally would have a really tough time forking over that much for tequila.

If you like to sip silver tequila, try a quality mezcal. You will never go back.
Sombra Mezcal. Like drinking smoke.

Completely agree. Sipable. Try pairing it with smoked fish. Amazing (and a great food pairing with any quality tequila or mezcal).

Depends on your budget. Do you like blanco or do you like more oak?

I’m not partial to Mezcal. Too earthy.

Fortaleza Anejo Lote 42
Tapiato XA
Rey Sol (if you can afford it)

On a budget? Try Azunia Reposado..available for about $28 at your local Safeway.

Lot 42/43 are supposed to have extra anejo blended in (and judging by the color, they do; definitely darker than the other lots)

For those of you in SoCal, HiTime has a sale on Patron Barrel Select: $29 for Reposado, $31 for Anejo. I know not everyone is a fan of Patron, but still, pretty good deal for a well made & clean product.

Cava de Oro Extra Anejo. Full-bodied tequila that drinks like a Cognac but tastes like Tequila.

ArteNOM Seleccion de 1414 Tequila Reposado is a current favorite. I'm not a fan of extra anejo heavy wooded tequilas. My other sipper is the Casa Dragones Blanco. For amazing value, I get the Corzo Blanco for $26 in the LA, CA area.
