Four Roses 2019 Limited Edition - looks like it’s spectacular, MSRP at $140. Found it at a shop, but at $399. Way overpriced, or is that reasonable for secondary market?
4R special releases typically don’t get that level of markup, unless they’re something truly special like the Al Young 50th bottling. I could see it being akin to the Elijah Craig 18 year, as they have almost similar MSRPs. Might be worth a twirl at $200, but definitely hard pass at $300 and higher.

Thank you. Was my guess, but there are so many damn bottlings now that it’s hard to track the limited releases.

Prior releases have been in that range and a bit higher. I’d say you got a fair deal.

Appreciate the data points; will skip. I always like to hit local liquor shops when traveling and that bottle stood out.

Good to hear from you Steven. Hope you are well. My son picked up one for me in Greenville, SC but he hasn't delivered it yet. I love KC though.

Anybody tried the Knob Creek 12yr yet? Saw it at Costco today.
Tried this last night, a bit of wood on the nose that dissipated quickly, vanilla and Carmel show up on the palate, flavors carry on thru the finish.Had neat, very smooth
and no heat.I would buy the single barrel all day for 15-20 dollars less.Have the 9yr on deck, less than half the price of the 12.

Garrison Brothers Balmorhea

Just got this today and first time tasting. The color is incredibly dark. The nose is brooding caramel, bananas, some slight smoke, vanilla bean. Palate is just amazing chestnut, caramel, mouth coating vanilla. A bit hot on the nose and somewhat on the tongue but with a tiny bit of ice it is just captivating and invites you back for more. Hard to stop drinking this one. Nice job GB.
Setting this up in WA right now. Looking forward to putting some out in the market to see how consumers feel. Thanks for the note.

LOL, how is the regular Sazerac the same price as Weller 12? You can buy a bottle of Sazerac any day for $22 (and FWIW I’m quite a fan of it).

Went with the 2015 Four Roses and the WT Kentucky Spirit. Both were great.

Exceeded, but my bar was low.

Today was a cocktail day, so nothing exciting to report. Did pick up some local stuff I wanted to try - OCD #5 Glenn Creek Distillery (using Old Crow yeast, if I understand this correctly) and a bottle of KC 10 barrel select by one of the local stores. Should be fun when I get home, as I have family coming to visit and a bottle of George T Stagg I picked up :)

80 degrees, no clouds and plenty of bourbon.

Also put a dent into some Elijah Craig K&L Barrel Select.

I sipped on a little OF9 (2018 release), ER10 store pick (Gresham Whiskey Trader in OR), and M10B (2019) tonight. Just a dram of each. All we very nice with the slight edge to the OF9. The ER10 store pick is hands down the best value. Possibly is all of bourbon.

I’ve been thinking of picking one of these up. They are still around here ($60) usually a lottery but since COVID they just released it generally.

I find it pretty regularly on the Plateau at the $34.99 price point.

Picked up 2 x Bookers Granny Batch ($89) and Weller 107 ($49) on a recent trip to Roseburg. Booker tasted greedy, but had a bit of a funky peanut smell that mostly dissipated after 15 mins.

Thanks Andrew. I haven't had similar luck but great minds think alike. I'm in Oregon now and stocked up on some Eagle Rare for $31.95. I also found Bulleit Barrel Strength for $49.95 and some Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch for $49.95. Not sure if any of them are bargains, but i like the flavor profiles and save the 20% WA sales tax. Would love tips on what else to look for while here.

Use this site to track stuff -> http://oregonliquorsearch.com/

I found it to be directionally correct; things like Weller CYPB and Full Proof never made the shelf, but 107 was 50/50. Should be able to find Eagle Rare there, as well as Elmer T Lee, etc. I’d call before driving anywhere :)

Great tip on the search tool!

Better tip on calling before you go to the store!

Many of the listed bottles were not actually available or were kept in the back and required inquiry.

Thanks again,

Had the OCD #5 for the third time today. It's terrible. Terrible to the point that I'd be worried about ruining a good can of Pepsi if I mixed the two.

Nose: strong paint thinner, fingernail polish remover and wood
Palate: heavy wood/over-oaked, a thin layer of caramel and ethyl alcohol that is hotter than hell
Finish: oily feel in my mouth, with an off-putting aftertaste similar to smoking a bad cigar and waking up the next AM

The bottle is labeled "aged more than two years in barrel," which leads me to believe they're trying to generate cash flow now, rather than wait a few years for it to mellow out.

Unfortunate, as I was excited to bring back a bottle from Kentucky that I could brag about (positively) here.

Is it my imagination or is Eagle Rare 10 year getting hard to find in Seattle?
it's allocated here in Chicago now. Sucks because I put it on my cocktail list.
In Seattle too, more available since restaurants are so restricted, but still sell every drop we get in 2 weeks, then out for 2 weeks. Best value in Bourbon, IMO, and now people are buying it in droves in retail. Pretty crazy how under the radar it was til Covid, at least in Seattle.

On a side note expect to start seeing some Garrison Bros. in WA, including Balmorhea and a limited amount of Cowboy. Woo hoo.

Come September Bob's Lake City will be getting the only Four Rose's Single Barrel Cask Strength expression that Brent went out and picked for the quarter.

Agree on the ER10-I’ve been saying that for years. I have a few store picks in reserve still.
I hope I get one of Brent’s 4R picks-he’s done well from what I’ve tasted so far.

For the Seattle crew - get ‘em while they’re here at $44.99. Pine Lake QFC.
Grabbed one of these based on this. Never had it. How do you drink it? (and, no need for "with your mouth" or "in a glass," you jokers!).

I sipped one neat and then have used ~half bottle for Manhattans, as I like the higher alcohol content in cocktails. I don't know that I'd call it the "whiskey of the year" by any stretch, but it's definitely solid (imho) at the $45 price point. Online reviews have been mixed, so ymmv.

Has anyone tried the Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve 9 year? I also picked up one of those, but haven't opened it yet.
