Help with Bitters

#1 Post by Daniel Mattisson » December 15th, 2018, 12:34 pm

I'd like to give a set of bitters to a friend and was wanted help as to what to get. He typically uses Angostura. Is there a brand to look for that has 4-5 good alternative types of bitters? Any help appreciated!

Not sure if it matters, but he leans towards darker spirits/cocktails, bourbon being the primary.

Bittermilk bitters are top quality and if you're looking for something with several alternatives, their mixers are made of the finest ingredients. While I'm a purist with cocktails, these are as good as almost any craft made cocktail anywhere.

Miracle Mile have been my favorite (especially the Forbidden Bitters for Manhattans), but are pretty pricey unless you find them at KL Wines and I don't believe they come in sets. Pretty cool story on the guy who makes them, as well.

I'd hit up Amazon for:
if you're a baller on a budget or
if you're looking for something I'd rather personally have in bourbon-based cocktails.

Dashfire is awesome.

Yes I represent them.

But he makes small batches of hand picked infusions.

Available on Amazon.

It seems like you search on one but you can toggle through the various options. Around 20 flavors though all may not be available. You could also search local stores for them.

Or reach out to Lee directly and ship through him.

Shameless plug for our own AZ Bitters Lab bitters, now featured in drinks at Amor y Amargo, Nitecap, UnderTow, Bitter&Twisted, and Curate (along with 100s of other places).

Have you found them in sets, though? I stock up when I fly down to CA, but I've never seen sets and my favorites are rarely in stock at K&L. Amazon carries, but is generally 2x-3x cost.
