Desperate times call for serious measures

I’m not generally a Glencadam fan, but this 37 year old bottled 5 years ago by Whisky-Fässle is a beauty. First tasted from a bottle that my friend CJ from Whisky Base brought to Ardbeggeddon 14(?). I immediately bought all he had left for sale. Fresh, fruity, clean and delicious; no one would guess that it aged 37 years in cask. Simply delicious. A stonking dram; I think I’ll have another as I toast my son and his girlfriend’s trip from LA to march down the Mall on Saturday.

Whoa!

Does the prelonged time spent in cask kill the whiskey, or are the oak notes well-integrated?

Surprisingly fresh. Little cask influence, no astringency. Taste is very tropical. Pineapple and mango. At 41.5%, close to being illegal. Whisky-Fässle picks great casks; I have tasted older Bunnahabhain ('68/43yrs) and Caperdonich ('72/39yrs) that they’ve bottled that are gorgeous. A great bottler.
