RIP Fred Eckhardt

Fred was one of the first modern beer writers in the U.S. His “A Treatise on Lager Beer” was the first post-prohibition American homebrewing text. His “The Essentals of Beer Style” is a classic, and was my bible when I was home-brewing. He was still actively involved in the Northwest beer scene this year. He was 89 years old. Rest in peace, Fred.

RIP, Fred. What a tireless and invaluable contribution he made to the local/regional/national craft beer scene, and to us beer lovers. Thanks.

Have his business card from meeting him at the 2000 GABF.

RIP
