Oliva 48 Special G Maduro

Arrived Tuesday. Coffee, oak and lots of pepper. I couldn't/didn't adjust to the smaller ring size so it burned a little hot and fast, fifteen minutes and I used a toothpick for maximum smoke time.

Decided to have a Fuente Short Story for comparison. The Short Story has a slightly larger ring size and is slightly longer. Saddle leather, toast, kitchen spice, hints of caramel and light pepper finish. Smoked for thirty minutes without a toothpick.

Love the short story - my go to when I don’t have time for a full cigar...

E. P. Carrillo Encore Celestial

Oak, coffee, leather and red pepper for starters, toning down to nuts, toast and black pepper in the second third. By mid cigar there is black tea, hints of salted caramel and a citrus component, finishing with white pepper. It started out medium plus in strength and has softened to barely medium with full body and flavor.

A. Fuente Hemingway Signature Natural Sun Grown

One year in the humidor. Coffee, leather, mild caramel, baking spice and a touch of white pepper on the finish. By mid cigar, notes of toast and natural tobacco appear. The baking spice increases slightly approaching the nub. Medium strength and body with very good burn line and somewhat flakey ash.

Tatuaje ME II
Oh man I loved this. The first half was A+ on all fronts. Unfortunately, the flavors began to drop off, there were more heat and burn issues. Still a terrific cigar. We'll see what a little more time does for it. = A

La Barba Red
Nice. Good looking cigar with a great draw and burn but the flavors and aroma were more common. =A-

Davidoff Primeros Nicaragua Maduro Petite Panatela

Checking out short smokes and going slow to keep the heat down. Davidoff lists a 15 minute smoking time and I got a full thirty minutes. Coffee, dusty earth and a finish of pepper the first half. Medium plus for strength. The coffee turned to mocha, then chocolate in the second half with a touch of sweetness, lighter pepper and medium in strength.

Had an Immensa knot in it that the spike couldn't clear.

My Father La Opulencia

Fall back on a sure thing. A +

Aladino Corojo Reserva LE No. 4
Cold draw Pepsi. First draws are wood, nuts, and plumbs. Later there is a combo of hazelnut and peanut butters. Pine aroma. A little spice in retro. A little bell pepper on the finish. Aladino ROCKS!!! = A+

RoMa Craft CroMagnon Aquitaine

Unique profile. Not intrigued by it. Lacks body. Retohale brings out more but it also burns. Very well constructed and looks beautiful but does not deliver on the palate. = D

Alec Bradley MAXX The Culture

In the humidor for at least five years and has the original band. Used to make amplifiers out of The Freak and The Culture cigar boxes and preamps out of The Fix cigar boxes. Starts out with bitter coffee and black pepper. By mid cigar there is some light sweetness and dark chocolate flavors. The burn was poor and the cigar was trying to canoe. Several touch ups and continuous rotating of the cigar corrected the burn a little past mid cigar. Kitchen spices, cedar and some nuttiness round out the cigar to the end.
