Fine Wine Auction - Tennants - 12 May 2012

Hello everyone.

This is my first post on this forum. I run the Fine Wine and Whisky auctions at Tennants Auctioneers in Yorkshire, England. I am a big Burgundy fan, however my pockets can only afford good New World PN. I thought I would let you all know about our wine sale on the 12 May as I am sure you will all be able to pick up some good wines without paying over the odds through a merchant.

First growth claret is well represented, including two cases of 1982 Chateau Latour (each £12,000-15,000 – see lots 1 and 34), two magnums of Chateau Lafite 1990 (£1,500-2,000), and a magnum of Cheval Blanc 1985 (£300-500). There are also three lots of ‘Super Seconds’ including two magnums of Carruades de Lafite 1995 (£400-600). In the large formats are two double magnums of Chateau Giscours 1995 (£180-250 each) and an imperial of Chateau Talbot 1996 (£550-750).

From a cellar in York comes a rare collection of vintage German wines from 1953 to 1976 which totals nearly 300 bottles and is to be sold entirely without reserve. Highlights from this cellar include three half bottles of Maximin Grunhauser Herrenberg 1959, Carl von Schubert, Trockenbeerenauslese (£1,500-2,500), and twelve bottles of Scharzhofberger 1976, Egon Muller, Auslese (£2,00-£3,000). ***** If you view the online catalogue the German wine is under Alsace and The Rhone - it is best viewed here Catalogue not found - Tennants Auctioneers - the-saleroom.com

Alongside the two cases of Robert Parker’s 100 point Chateau Latour 1982 there are five cases of Taylor 1992, which also received 100 points (£700-1000 each case). Other notable Port includes fourteen magnums of Graham 1977 (£1,100-1,500), dozens of Taylor and Cockburn 1963 and bottles of Graham 1945 (£350-450) and Cockburn 1927 (£200-300).

As ever, there is a good selection of Burgundy, Sauternes and Champagne including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, Hermitage La Chapelle, Chateau d’Yquem, Chateau Rieussec, Krug and Dom Perignon. There is also a good selection of Australian wines, Cognac, Armagnac, Chartreuse, Cigars and Whisky.

The catalogue can be viewed online at http://www.tennants.co.uk/Catalogue/Sale211/Page1.aspx where you will also find illustrations of each lot. You can also log onto http://www.the-saleroom.com and register to bid live via the internet.
