Shipping Wine to Europe

Anyone have any experience/insight sending wine to Switzerland, person-to-person? Seems to be easier to get an audience with the Pope.

DHL, Fed Ex, or UPS?
Only issue I would think is that the recipient would be responsible for any duties and taxes.

Wines get shipped to Switzerland quite frequently, as that is one of the ways to turn Duty Paid stock back to In Bond status.

I Shipped a case of wine via DHL to A remote town in Calabria Italy June 2011 and it arrived in 1 week! In good condition. Addresses to myself in care of hotel.
Perhaps you can address it to yourself to avoid any duty, taxes and let the receiver know that you’re doing it.

I’ve been able to ship to Germany via FedEx without incident or any customs interference.

YES, I have done this via Fed-Ex, but had to use an intermediate in UK to receive and send along because they pay less tax on wine/booze. If you send it straight and say it is alcohol, customs will intercept and hold until taxes paid. Good Luck !
