TN: NV Rey Fernando de Castilla - Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Fino "Antique" (Spain, Andalucía)

NV Rey Fernando de Castilla Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Fino “Antique” - Spain, Andalucía, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry (8/25/2013)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over a couple hours –

NOSE: expressive; tangy tawniness; high-toned varnish note (V/A?); a touch simple, but nonetheless pleasant.

BODY: orange-tan color (dark for a Fino); medium-light bodied.

TASTE: noticeable oak, but it doesn’t mar the experience; dry; tangy saline/flor/Sherry thing; bloomy rind cheese – Camembert or Brie; lots of acidity; 17% alc. is well-hidden; richly-flavored for a Fino.

B: 50, 5, 11, 17, 7 = (90 pts.)

thanks for the note. the palo cortado of the “antique” lineup is also quite nice.

I agree about the Palo Cortado. The real star of the “Antique” lineup, imo, is the Amontillado.

Just bought a bottle of the amontillado. Looking forward to trying it! Never had it before. In fact, I’ve never really given sherry a proper chance.
