Here are some pics Ive taken recently from Zinfandel vineyards Im going to make wine from in 2014. Sorry if quality is poor as I was using my iphone.

This is Avio Vineyard in southern Amador county. Elevation is higher than Shenandoah valley. The grapes from this vineyard made my favorite wine this vintage.
Image

This is from Erickson Vineyard in Northern Calavaras County. Its fairly low elevation and still in the rolling grassy hills portion of the Sierra Foothills. He gets alot of wind and never has needed to spray anything at all. Makes wine with real power without weight.
Image

This vineyard in Coloma in El Dorado County is stones through from where they discovered gold in California at Sutters Mill. Im working with the owner to lease it outright next year and do the farming myself.
Image

This one is also in El Dorado County near Coloma but up in the summit of a small mountain ridge. It gets sun all day and seems to ripen weeks before any other vineyard in the area. Its called Oro Vista.
Image

This is Matranga Vineyard in Placer County. Its not quite in the foothills (still pretty flat) and its not close to any rivers really so I was a bit skeptical but a wine sample I tried was impressive so Im going to give it a shot. Owner is a awesome 86 year old third generation grower of Italian decent. Really enjoyed meeting with him.
Image

This is Scanlan Vineyard in the foothills portion of Placer County. 30 year old head trained organic vineyard.
Image

This is Stallan Vineyard about a mile away from the previous one. This is one of three vineyards Im doing from Placer County all within a mile of each other so it should be interesting to see the differencres. This produced a lovely and fairly deep wine at only 22 brix this year so it seems well situated.
Image

This is Sommerset vineyard in the Fair Play AVA in El Dorado County. Another one that is head pruned and organic.

Same storm I presume, Rat. We have got about 2.25 inches in my backyard down here in the OC since Thursday night. Most rain I have seen in what, 2 years here? I hope it keeps going up there, for all the reasons we have been talking about for CA.
My WOTY candidates for 2019:
2014 Marie Courtin Eloquence BdB Extra Brut
2017 Rivers-Marie PN Occidental Ridge SC
2017 Rivers-Marie PN Platt SC
2017 Kutch Pinot Noir SC PN
2009 Roederer Cristal Brut
2017 Carlisle Zin Mancini Ranch RRV

My best wines of 2018:
2017 Kutch Falstaff Sonoma Coast PN
2012 Marguet La Grande Ruelle Ambonnay

Kindness matters.

Actually it was from last year, just digging up stuff. Note the vines still have leaves on them. Up here in F'ville we got about 5" total since Wednesday. That's about 13" for February. Hopefully March brings even more than that.
