#1 Post by Brian Tuite » June 27th, 2013, 7:59 am

There seems to be a spot here for all kinds of pics, Food Porn, Bread Porn, Steak Porn... isn't this a wine forum?

Maybe this will encourage others to share their pics. I've posted a couple of these before but today I stopped by Hayne and Dr Crane and wanted to add some shots I took. Enjoy.

Wow, Brian....great pics. Love 'em.
Interesting that you show the Beckstoffer DrCrane Ranch and the (old-vine) Hayne stuff both. You didn't take a pic of all
the new Cabernet vines planted on Hayne that Beckstoffer pulled out a bunch of old-vine stuff to plant?? He didn't make
any friends over that move!!

I couldn't even bring myself to slow my truck down as I passed it. What a shame that is. Andy renamed the new planting Bourn Vineyard and gave it it's own Beckstoffer sign. No sign at Hayne, that's scary.

Beautifully done Brian, I assume that "Martinelli" is Martinelli Road vineyard (sourced by Carlisle among others)?

The Saralee's Vineyard shot makes one imagine that the vines are in motion. What a killer photo. I'm going to set that to my wallpaper on my computer! Thanks.

The Bourn portion that was ripped out and replanted was the only part the Haynes sold to him.

In some cases I would imagine yes.

But, everything turns brown around here when spring is done. Don't need roundup for that to happen.

Nick,
There is a lot of old-vine Mourvedre over in the Pittsburg/Antioch area of ContraCostaCnty. Planted by Portugese settlers
in the late 1800's-early 1900's. They refer to it as Mataro...the name Ridge prefers to use for Mourvedre. They used to make
Mataro from those old vines but dropped it in the mid-'90's. The soil is very sandy there, so there's no problem w/
phylloxera and many of those Mataro vnyds are own-rooted.

Great photos. Here's the gnarly old monsters of the Best's Nursery Block, Great Western region of Victoria. The most extensive pre-phylloxera plantings in Australia.

Some good info on the vineyard on their website. http://www.bestwines.com/nurseryblock
