2011 Wagner-Stempel Siefersheimer Vom Porphyr Trocken

2011 Wagner-Stempel Riesling Siefersheimer Vom Porphyr Trocken
13% ABV $30

A recommendation from here, and a good one.

Light straw color not completely clear, some spritz. Nice dry riesling nose with mineral and white fruit with some blossoms. On the palate, refreshing, zingy lemon-lime, tangy notes over lots of salty, chalky stone. Another winner that could be mistaken for an Alsace GC, except with a certain airiness which is becoming rarer there. Great refreshing summer wine, that stays light but with some depth. Nice recommendation (think it was Lyle).

Thanks. Love this wine in almost any vintage, haven’t seen it yet from 2011, but will keep an eye out.

Yes, the 11 showed well at the Rudi Wiest tasting, so I bought several that I have enjoyed… Tough to keep your hands off of them.

If you like this, also check out the Schafer-Frohlich Vulkangestein – another affordable top-class German dry. I’ve already had to reload on that one!

I bought both from Robert Panzer / Down to Earth Wines, who frequents the boards – he may still have some, I know he bought quite a bit based on the quality.
