Give me the cheap...Salon,Krug,DP...

If you can’t afford to drink these beauties every night…then what are their qpr dead ringers, with similar tastes and profiles? Would love to hear about some domestics,if any, as well.

In China, look for Saloon, Kroog and Don Peregrine…

Diebolt Vallois Blanc de Blanc and Charles Heidsieck NV come to mind for Salon and DP.

Check out J.L. Vergnon from Mesnil/Oger as a Salon alternative (not the zero dosage). Or Delamotte, of course (same owners).

Vilmart. Ledru.

Delamotte and R&L Legras. Both producers make a really good Blanc de Blancs.

off vintage salon, krug, dp?

Only ballers like Charlie can drink off vintages and consider them affordable QPR. I’ll stick to Saloon and Kroog.

Charlie he said cheap [cheers.gif]

Pierre Peters

The '97 Salon was much dearer than the '96!

Having said that, it is a pretty darn good Champagne for an “off” vintage…

you guys don’t know the buzzini like id o

There aren’t any really.

‘Kruglike’ gets thrown around a lot, I’m always amazed when I see it applied to Vilmart. The only one really close IMHO is Gratiens vintage wines.

De Meric is one of the most Krug-like for me.

Ariston Aapasie is for me the best QPR BY FAR… (You can find it at K&L)

I prefer Vilmart’s freshness to Krug’s oxidizes style.

Yes, me also…

What about Michel Arnould Verzenay “Brut Reserve” Champagne for Krug-like?

The 1996 Legras is really good.

I like them both [stirthepothal.gif]

it’s funny to read so much about Krug’s oxidized style when current krug haters say that it’s not like that anymore.

interesting thread.
