Sounds like a really mean, out-of-control weekend with a lot of drunks. Then again, my sour mash experiences all were in the hill country of southwest Virginia, so I don’t know any better when it comes to JD or Dickel. [blackeye.gif]
This sounds like a logical amount ($ wise). Especially when “The Group” would be able to get together and choose the barrel. 1.) I have no idea what i would ever do with 240 bottles of whiskey, and 2.) JD is much better than Dickel.
The liquor store I use for my restaurant purchased a barrel through Buffalo Trace. http://www.buffalotrace.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I liked the product and the price. My liquor store owner has a great palate and IMO, he chose a great barrel. The problem he has is finding consistent barrels to re-order.
The private labeling wasn’t very personal. The same package was applied with a tacky gold sticker that really doesn’t stand apart from Buffalo’s regular product.
If you can find enough people to share the barrel, go for it as the experience is fun and unique.
Full retail is $26/btl. We are state controlled here in OR so I would guess about $13- $18/btl. I’ll see him again next week and ask about the price to be sure.
Our mileage differed, as during our various “tastings” to a number we all preferred White label Dickel to Black label JD. The White Dickel was oh-so-much smoother. Those days are long-past for me, though.
The Delicate Palate Bistro in Pacific City. I’m working on the new web site right now and will put the link in my profile when it’s complete with updated menu’s, wine list and pics.
Heard all about it (all good) and plan to come back and visit. Last time I was there it was a quick overnight R&R trip. Stayed with Mike and Laura and shared some Belle Pente and a couple of beers with Chenin, who let me drink out of Sean’s glass at the Pelican since he was out of town.
Long story about how I know her, but it’s a good one. She’s a walking small world moment.
