TN: 2004 Espelt Empordà ComaBruna (Spain, Catalunya, Empordà)

  • 2004 Espelt Empordà ComaBruna - Spain, Catalunya, Empordà (7/3/2009)
60% Syrah, 20%Carignan, 20%Marselan blend. Opaque, inky purple/black in color. Initial nose very tight and closed, but with 1-1.5hrs of breathing time begins to reveal ripe blackberry fruit and violet floral notes. On the palate there is more juicy black fruit followed by an intense, almost searing one-two-three combo of tannin, mineral, and acid. This is great stuff if you like Syrah based wines in the non-Aussie style but still like some jammy fruit. Needs at least 2 years of additional cellaring. (91 pts.)
