Not a great price, but this wine has great potential. I believe they bottled everything in 2015 as Rosso.

Love to hear more on this. 2015 was a decent vintage, interesting that they declassified.
.
The story seems to be that the estate was in transition that year. There are a few versions of what exactly was bottled, either a NV or a 2015 Rosso or both. (Here's one link) https://thewinehouse.activehosted.com/s ... 2c77de03.1

Interesting. I clicked on the link and that label is different than the label of the wine that I bought, which was clearly labeled as 2015.

Here is what Gordon's (Waltham, MA) wrote in their email offering the 2015 Rosso last April:

"What I bring to you today is truly a can't-miss wine. In a nutshell, this is 100% declassified Brunello from a legendary vintage, and is the last vintage made entirely by the famous Diego Molinari.

Molinari’s Cerbaiona Estate has long been considered among the truest expressions of Brunello, alongside Poggio di Sotto, Salvioni and Soldera, and Biondi Santi. Diego fully retired in 2016, and with no interested heirs, sold the winery to an American investor in October 2015.

2015 is therefore the last vintage made entirely by this legend of the wine world, and the decision was made not to produce a Brunello in 2015, both to honor the fact that Diego did not see it through to bottling, as well as give the new ownership a clear demarcation line toward the future. As such, the 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is made up of 100% declassified Brunello. The wine comes in the traditional Cebaiona bottle, with a red wax cap, white label (Rosso is usually black) and in a wooden 6-pack.

The resulting wine is, simply put, spectacular. Intense, powerful, perfumed and silky - lots of dark Sangiovese fruit, with wild spices and hints of earth. This wildly over-delivers and offers a window onto the remarkable vintage with a wine that will drink well now and over the next 10 years, without having to wait for it to soften."

Much Thanks,

Not sure that's the "whole" story as it doesn't really add up, economically. I suspect someone screwed the pooch making the 2013 and/or the 2015 and this is a salvage operation.

Was it this label? https://garyswine.com/shop/?product-id= ... 106086fefc

As I said, it looks like there are both NV and 2015 Rosso, both of which claim there was no Brunello made because of the purchase of the estate. Of course, that may not be the true story. Plenty of estates get sold and they usually don't skip bottling the flagship wine.

Your link didn't work for me. But, yes, I was able to find the white 2015 Rosso label on garyswine.com. I also found it here:

https://www.sharewine.com/da/annoncer/1 ... label-2015

I don't know how to upload an image yet, which would have been the most efficient way for me to share the label.

Some 2018 Lafarge but most excited about the 1 magnum of passoutgrain Anthologie - nearly 100 yr old gamay vines, apparently a one-off bottling only in mags.

The ‘92 Batard was delicious back in the day, but I can’t recall having it since 2000 or 2001.

You did well to find this this late and given the MFW review and 98 score. I think once David and Jean came out with that review, there was a bit of a mad scramble to buy. Especially the mags.

FYI if you are interested in this, the importer/distributor in NC has plenty of 750s and you can buy it from a couple of stores in NC and they will ship anywhere no tax. I just picked up the AP 11 and also the AP 1 Kabinett.

That's awesome Andrew K. I actually ended up ordering from a place in North Carolina. I may have happened upon the same distributor/seller. It's my first order with them, but the owner seems extremely knowledgeable and I spoke to them on the phone for about 20 minutes about Riesling this morning. I just spoke to him again and he said he does have access to more of it and would be happy to help any Wineberseker. If it's ok I will post his website. I'm not sure if that is against the rules so I won't post it yet. He said he had plenty so I went ahead and finished the case :).

There's two stores in NC I was told about - Chapel Hill Wine and The Caviste. Chapel Hill had a better bottle price, but Caviste came even on a case purchase. The wine is coming from the same distributor. Caviste also offered some of the 2017/2018 Rotwein.

Wow. North Carolina did great this time around! I ordered from a site called durham.wine. It's my first order with them so I will hold out suggesting them, but the owner seemed highly knowledgeable and the price was excellent. I did ask him if it as ok to share his information and he said yes.

Piedmont is an importer, but is also the NC distributor. So it's a perfect state to stock up on Falkenstein every year because they buy a bunch direct from the producer.

All eight of our regional US importers, including Piedmont Wine Imports, in Durham, North Carolina, are also distributors. That's what makes our pricing so attractive. We don't work with a national importer.

I was reading Wine Spectator yesterday and saw where they rated the 2018 Colene Clemens Dopp Creek Pinot Noir 94. I love the 2015 and have drank several cases of the stuff. I lucked out and saw that wine searcher showed a local shop had it so I bought six bottles. This is a great house wine for everyday drinking, and one of the best QPRs I have ever seen for a Willamette valley Pinot.

Thanks Lars! I will definitely be looking in that area in the future. It looks like they are very lucky to have you working/importing in NC. The prices are great and the selection is awesome in a lot of the places I searched yesterday.
