Patrick, I had the 95 SM about 3 or 4 years ago, from a 6-pack purchase then. Tried a bottle and I recall it was closed hard then. I'll likely pull and give another bottle a shot soon.

That’s a good idea. I’m going out there almost a week early, so will have time to stand it up and let it settle once I arrive. I’ll give HDH a ring tomorrow. Thanks, and let’s definitely get together to drinks some wine in Chicago soon!
I’m not afraid of bottle shock. But there’s gonna be considerable sediment. Stand it up ASAP when you arrive. Hopefully a week is enough!

I just bought my first case (!), which is a mixed case Stags' Leap (mainly 2015 Investor blend with some '14 and '16 Cab). I thought the Investor was really enjoyable when someone brought it to dinner a couple months ago and I felt like I couldn't pass up a deal which resulted in the the bottles costing me $23 each, including shipping.

Benchmark sent me a 10% coupon for clearance, so I backfilled some older burgundy:

2008 Lambrays
2009 Angerville Champans
2005 Patrice Rion GC Clos Prieur and Chambolle Village

With the 10% off there's some reasonably good deals there still on Champagne, Rhone, and Burgundy

Moratorium over so went bargain-hunting at auction:

12 x Piesporter Goldtropfchen 1975 Riesling Auslese, Josef Kettern-Sonntag @ £5
12 x Mettenheimer Schlosberg 1971 Beerenauslese, Philipp Wibmann @ £9
12 x Graacher Domprohst 1971 Auslese Eiswein, D. Licht Bergweiler Erben @ £9

6 x Faiveley, Clos des Cortons 2002 @ £29
6 x Faiveley, Latricieres Chambertin 2002 @ £29
10 x Faiveley, Chambertin 2002 @ £ 62
3 x Grivot, Clos de Vougeot 1994 @ £43
2 x Lafon, Volnay Santenots-de-Millieu @ £43

Great prices due to the condition of the labels (mostly missing or only pieces remaining on the Burgundy). The levels are perfect though:-) I love to see scrappy looking labels in auction catalogues;-)

A group of us enjoyed their 2014 Meursault Perrieres some months back (negociant; their first year). I think you won't regret giving them a try :)

Vins Rare just offered the 2003 for only $3995. A relative bargain compared to the Golden8 offer of 1993 Domaine Leroy Musigny for a basement price of $13,249.95

I blame Mark. I had been looking at a bottle of Sherry in London and was putting it off but I kept being reminded by his thread on the pound.

1964 Gonzalez Byass Oloroso
Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux 1er Trie, 1989 ,Huet
Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux 1er Trie, 1996 ,Huet x3
Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Rotlay, 2009 ,Selbach-Oster x6
Warre port, 1966

Then I bought one bottle locally. A 2015 Bereche Rive Gauche.
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.

Moratorium over so went bargain-hunting at auction:

12 x Piesporter Goldtropfchen 1975 Riesling Auslese, Josef Kettern-Sonntag @ £5
12 x Mettenheimer Schlosberg 1971 Beerenauslese, Philipp Wibmann @ £9
12 x Graacher Domprohst 1971 Auslese Eiswein, D. Licht Bergweiler Erben @ £9

6 x Faiveley, Clos des Cortons 2002 @ £29
6 x Faiveley, Latricieres Chambertin 2002 @ £29
10 x Bouchard Pere et Fils, Chambertin 2002 @ £ 62
3 x Grivot, Clos de Vougeot 1994 @ £43
2 x Lafon, Volnay Santenots-de-Millieu @ £43

Great prices due to the condition of the labels (mostly missing or only pieces remaining on the Burgundy). The levels are perfect though:-) I love to see scrappy looking labels in auction catalogues;-)
[Ed. oops - typed too quickly there. the Chambertin is from Bouchard PeF, not Faiveley!]
How did you manage a typo of Bouchard and Faiveley?
Agree that crappy labels often produce stellar wines
Haha, I was typing (and bidding - a hair-raising experience) on a small phone screen on a train, with patchy internet. Copy paste of the line above I think - deleted Latricieres but forgot to change the producer;-)

Not a purchase, but my 16 Grand Puy Lacoste halves are in @ MacArthurs. Woohoo!
Mmmmm.....those should shine in 2035-2040.
Fortunately, I plan on being very much alive in 2040. Just checked my Planner and confirmed.

My first auction I thought I was buying Ch Latour 1985, instead ended up with two cases of 1982 Canon.

I could agree with you, but then we both would be wrong.

If you are free on Nov of 2040 I would like to share it with you. How does your schedule look as of now? :)

Haha, that sounds familiar. I bid on some Rousseau Clos Saint-Jacques a number of years ago and ended up getting the following lot - a load of Hospices de Beaune from 70, 71, and 72 (30-something bottles in total). In the end I didn't complain, despite the lag being on their end rather than mine - the price was very reasonable (they've almost all turned out to be very good!) and it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. Still, a shame about the Clos Saint-Jacques...
