And since Métras is comparatively tricky to get hold of in Anglophone markets, it's something interesting to open that people will enjoy. For the same reason, I enjoy serving Selosse, Overnoy, Domaine des Mirroirs and so forth to friends who don't have good access to those wines.

I opened a 2018 Dutraive Fleurie VV last night and it was outstanding.

As well as 1x 1964 Clos la Madeleine, the exact wine which was the first Saint-Emilion I ever tasted.

A few 2006 Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Nicolas.

I seem to be trying to catch up on 25 years of not buying Champagne in a single year.

Let's see, what did I add on my New York/New Jersey trip?

1995 Kalin Cuvee D Chard (yay!)
2017 Joseph Colin Chassagne Vide Bourse
2016 Thomas Morey Chassagne Baudines (need both of these for next July)
2017 Rivers-Marie Occidental PN (yay--my WOTD from FallTacular this year)
2017 Yvon Clerget Volnay Clos du Verseuil (couldn't resist a monopole from a producer I want to try for first time)

Oops, just pulled the trigger for some 2016 Chateau Sociando for the same price. A lot more than i have paid before, but this is it. No more new releases. I said that in 2014. This time I mean it, like really really mean it. Done.

The 1995 Kalin is very nice! One of the first non-Kistler renditions of Dutton Ranch Chardonnay.

We need to start inspiring this board to buy wines I don't like. I hear great things about Chapoutier, Cos d'Estournel and PYCM! (OK, success on that last one.)

That other thread lists wines where the cat is already out of the bag. There is also a lot not being said. For good reason. Particularly about the sub-$100 price point. I also think there’s some overvaluing of Lignier MSD VV going on even if it is a great wine.

These are my two favorite Bdx of those that I can realistically purchase. I haven’t bought any 15s. How do you think they compare to the other recent ones?

The 2015 Lalande is lovely, slightly richer but still with the telltale herbal thing going on. Conseillante was sleeker than usual but really impressive depth and finish.

Mark,

Curious. Why are you buying a lot of 2015s rather than 2014s or 2016s. Virtually all my experience with 2015s was at a Union des Grand Crus de Bordeaux tasting in DC about a year and a half ago. My sense of the wines then was that they had good but not over the top richness, but that most of the wines seemed a bit soft - lower acidity than I would like. Certainly, there were exceptions and there were wines that I liked a good bit. But, that was my general impression.

Do you just disagree with me? Do you agree with me but found these two wines to be different (I tasted the PL but not the la Conseillante)? Are the wines showing more structure now than they did then? Or, do you just like Bordeaux with lower acidity than I do - I must confess that as a lover of Burgundy and German wines, I tend toward higher acid wines and, for example, don't like a lot of 2009 Bordeaux. Looking forward to your thoughts.

Don’t disagree, I like both vintages better than 2015. But 2015 is still a pretty good vintage, these two happen to be excellent wines, and most importantly I got a very good deal on them.
The Pichon especially is beautifully balanced, with plenty of acidity, and the Conseillante is a little softer, but the acidity is well within my tolerance.
