1979 was my first real experience of young Bordeaux. Still very strong in Margaux, and really cheap. Du Tertre, Giscours and Palmer well worth looking for. Also some very good Pomerols; Certan de May is serious wine.

I could agree with you, but then we both would be wrong.

Grabbed some birth year wine for my upcoming 40th:

1979 Margaux, Palmer, Pichon Lalande, recommended by the board. Also got some '79 Mouton on auction.

Fingers crossed most (some?) end up drinkable, I'm not sure how much longer '79s are an option for a secondhand buyer like me.
Also a 79 birthday- those are fine. The 79 Mouton I opened a few years ago felt young. The 79 PLL is my personal favorite, it’s got plenty of years left.
In my experience these should be holding up very well. Generally an underrated vintage in Bdx (and a good one in Burgundy/N Rhone as well). Recently, the Pavie, L Latour Corton Grancey, and Hermitage la Chapelle have been drinking beautifully:-)
Lots more very good 79 Bdxs that should live for a long time. We had an exchange last year about this in another thread. There are a number of very good RB wines going strong, as well as very good LB wines like Haut Brion, La Miss, Haut Bailly, and (good bottles of) Ducru. I’m sure there are many more that are now drinking on a long-life plateau where they gain bottle sweetness / old wine goodness with age.

Still under the radar but pricing seems to be on a gentle upslope.

9 halves of Ducru Beaucaillou 1961 in pretty good condition.
thumb_110.JPG
Listed at auction with too high an estimate so didn't sell, and made an offer post sale. Still pricey but couldn't help it...

six pack of 2016 ANTHILL FARMS PINOT NOIR TINA MARIE VYD. Have to pay sales tax at 7.38%, ok with that. Then I find out shipping is now $50 a case or $36 for 6. So the good deal price disappears but it's not available in the DC area. EDIT: It is available in DC but significantly more than I paid even with tax and shipping.

I broke down for a couple more 2008 Dom Pérignon, as Costco’s $137.99 price is just too tempting.

I grabbed the last two off the rack at Brookhaven but didn’t check to see if they had more under the rack. I previously got some at the Perimeter store but I haven’t been there in a few weeks.

my bad. Jeremy’s 17 Roy wine reviews made me grab some even though I vowed not to buy post 05 reds. Actually not my bad. It’s Jeremy’s fault.

2 bottles of Jean Francois Rapet Corton (Blanc) 2015, completely on impulse.

I know literally nothing about this label apart from that it's bottled by Earl Meuneveaux and distributed by Rapet Francois et Fils. Does anyone know what I've bought (other than the obvious of course)?

Thanks. Wish it could’ve been more; but the local distributor here doesn’t get much of an allocation. The higher bottlings got snapped up before I knew about the latest shipment.

To share a wine bid: 2014 Domaine de Vaccelli Ajaccio Granit 174; $32 or so (but with shipping/tax etc. goes up). Don't know anything about this wine... but respect the importer.

Picking up a few bottles of 2008 DP this afternoon. Very young; but, at the equivalent of $167/bottle, I couldn’t resist. More bubbly for the punishing Philippine summer.

Try the one you have, and see if you like it. In the past, it was quite a oaky wine, no idea if that has changed.

I'm very tempted, but a $100+ bottle is expensive for me, so I'm also a bit afraid of opening it [far] too early, even though I've enjoyed Almaviva upon release. I'll post notes when I do taste it, though. There's nothing on CellarTracker yet for this vintage.

At the recommendation of the sales associate at a reputable wine store in Dallas, I purchased the following pinots:

- Land of Promise 2014 (Sonoma County)
- Clos de La Bidaude 2014 (Burgandy)

Opened up both tonight. Both were terrible in their own way. LOP tasted like sugar water. Much too sweet. And Clos tasted like water with food coloring and an overly sour finish.

I spent over $1k at this wine store the other month (none based on stores reco). What sort of recourse does a buyer have when they don't like what the store recommends?
