Talking of 1970 Pomerol, 6 bottles of VCC 1970 along with 4 bottles of Ausone 1966.

1985/1990 Cantemerle and 1986 Meyney, definitely intentional! :)

2 x 2011 Le Piane Boca on Winebid

Outbid on:
1970 Haut Bailly
2008 Vilmart Couer de Cuvee

Someone snagged two bottles of Maison Leroy Meursault Perrieres at $340 each. Just a wee bit above my comfort zone to take advantage of the arbitrage opportunity (assuming they weren’t fakes.)

For the life of me I don’t understand the price increases for, and the fascination with, young Maison Leroy.

I neglected to say it was 2011. This wasn’t a question of fascination to me - just arbitrage.

Two dirty bottles without labels (but great levels) sold at auction as "presumed 1970". I cut the capsules when they arrived - was actually expecting 1970 as past experience with the auction house has been very good, though there was always a chance they were from a weaker vintage, like 1968 or something...

It occasionally happens but never like this. Wonderful piece of luck.
And with high fills and no label, they were in a high humidity cellar; best possible storage.

Indeed - I could hardly believe it. I've bought quite a few bottles like this in the past (with missing or illegible labels) and had the occasional spot of luck, but nothing remotely like this. There was a 1934 Mouton that I got lucky with but that was sold as a Mouton of unknown vintage (it could have been a lot worse but also potentially better...). This was quite something!

Well it is one of the great wines from the last century, and in that condition it should make for an amazing evening. If and when you do open it, please post a note.

Nice, the VCC is one of the ‘70 Pomerol I have yet to have the pleasure of trying. Hopefully, I can find some not too far away.

Hmmm...just found one bottle available locally; but at double winesearcher’s average price. Am on the fence buying it just to try rather than flying some in (at a better price) without having tried it first.

On three occasions, yes. One was so-so but the other two were outstanding.

They were all winebid purchases from a while back so storage could have been variable.

Yeah, that's $10 less per bottle than I paid at Envoyer and I thought Greg offered it at a deal.
(Edit: unless Chateau de Beaucastel isn't the same thing as beaucasel? I'm going to be on the watch for a sneaky négociant who labels a wine Chateau de Beaucasel!)

1966 Ausone is one birthyear wine I haven't tried but want to.

Have you tried it before or one of these new additions?

Where did you manage to find that?

(I also have enjoyed the 1970 VCC, wouldn't mind finding some of that again)

Sotheby’s had the 1966; a friend who was at the sale decided to buy it for me knowing my taste and feeling that the price was ridiculous ($650 + vig for four bottles).

Not had it, but plan to open a bottle once I prise it out of them, no small feat.

The 1970 came from a damp cellar; the fills superb the labels shot. It’s a wine I have liked in the past.

Talking of 1970 Pomerol, 6 bottles of VCC 1970 along with 4 bottles of Ausone 1966.

Wow, good friend! That price makes it a worth the flyer...let us know how they are when you pop a cork!

1996 Huet le Mont Moelleux

If it’s at least half as good as the 1er trie it was a bargain.
Ripe fruit isn't necessarily a flaw.

One of my sources picked up some interesting older bottles which were just too tempting. A 1949 Lafite and 1970 Hermitage la Chapelle.

I could agree with you, but then we both would be wrong.
