Yeah I got a few from envoyer but I realized I had cases of the 08 but only a few loose bottles of 0@; I went pretty long on the 09 dom and for whatever reason didn’t get much of Cristal even though it was well priced. Back when I lived in LA there were all sorts of bottles at Costco for 150 or less too.

I lapsed, sort of. Bought 2 bottles of 2009 Cristal. Consistent with the long term (non)buying strategy but interrupts my no-buy streak which began before Thanksgiving.

I won’t bother to walk through the whole purchase, but suffice it to say it included 32x 375’s of ‘82 Branaire Ducru and 19x 375’s of ‘83 Cantemerle...It is certainly one of the strangest wine purchases I’ve made.

Sure seems like it, but I guess technically only a little over a case equiv for the Branaire and less for the Cantemerle since they are all 375s. You might be right though, maybe a bit excessive? [headbang.gif]

This IS the group therapy thread for addicts though, right? Or am I in the right place? [help.gif]

Depending on price, I might have been all over that!

My note from last year:
1983 Chateau Cantemerle
Lovely. Pretty. Classic. Could not have asked for a cleaner bottle of this mature beauty. Cork pulled cleanly, really ready to go on pop and pour. We decanted it but dove straight in. A lovely Bordeaux funk, forrest floor and dried fruits. Mid-weight, perhaps lighter, on the palate, but a really refined sense of a classic claret. Nice array of dried red fruits framed by old barnwood. Paired so nicely with a tray of charcuterie. Everything in such balance. This is my type of Bordeaux. By the way, it had a Cordier sticker on the back. That surprised me, did not recall that Cordier once owned this Chateau. (91 pts.)
This was out of 375, but I have a couple of '75s out of 375 last year as well. Wish I had bought 50% or more of my Bordeaux in that format.

I think the 82 Branaires were $55/375 and 83 Cantemerles were $24ish. I’ve had both formats of the Branaire recently and already have maybe a case and a half left. Most of that has been closer to $120-140/750 so I liked this price.

It’s funny the whole impetus for this order was the thread on 04 VCC—I had a great bottle a few years ago—so I picked up 6 for $120 ea. Also bought some ‘82 Certan De May and a case and a half of mixed mid 90’s Sammarco.

Anyway, TCWC got me good this week.. I’m usually reticent to buy at retail and would rather try to pick up undervalued auction lots but couldn’t help myself. [cheers.gif]
