Oh, crap.

Someone gave me a copy of the new Wine Spectator.

I got sucked in what with all those high two digit numbers.

Went to Solano Cellars and got some Daniel Rion et Fils 2016 Beaux Monts and 2016 Les Chaumes and then over to benchmark for some 2016 Meo Camuzet Les Chaumes.

Ouch.

Stupid Wine Spectator.

2015 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain.

Mispriced at $90.99 CAD (about $70 USD) in Vancouver, Canada. In a province with 100%+ alcohol tax, this is a bargain.

Around 3 cases of assorted wines from Finger Lakes wineries. For those that haven’t visited the area, the wines are really impressive at some of the places up here. Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet franc are the big 3 but lots of interesting other stuff made from vignoles, gewurtz, and more.

Kemmeter and Wiemer were the top visits but really good stuff happening at Shaw, Ravines, Weis, and Keuka Lake. A lot of these wineries are run or owned by German transplants directly from the Mosel and it shows.

2016 O’Shaughnessy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Even though it’s NV wine I like the fact that it’s estate grown fruit and not a typical NV CS sourced from multiple vineyards and growers.

I picked up some 2016 Ridge Estate Cab, 2017 and 2012 Geyserville, and 2018 Lytton Springs Rosé today at the Monte Bello assemblage tasting... and impulse bought a 3L of ‘17 Geezer.

How was the event? Any TN? I had tickets to go, but did 4 pickups on Friday and just didn't have the energy in me to go.

Day was perfect, great weather. Loved the 18 Monte Bello sample (though it's the same blend as it was a month ago, somehow tasted better on a nice day, rather than the cold, windy, rainy day it was a month ago).

Cool. How was the 2016 Estate Cab? I loved the 2015 and should have bought more, trying to figure out how deep to go on the 2016.

It’s much less prominent in the 2016 Estate Cab than a few years ago (I think 2014 was the oaky one but I could be wrong). I thought the 2018 MB showed quite a bit of oak but it is just a month into its new barrels so maybe expected.

Awesome pick-up. I’ve been able to track down a ton of ‘82 and ‘88, both of which are superb, but for some reason have struggled to find 85’s.

Today:
Chateau Guillot 2001 Pomerol
Jaboulet-Vercherre Vosne-Romanée 1970
Chateau Haut Batailley 1975
and some bottles of Mouton Cadet 2016; the sudden dramatic improvement in the wine´s quality convinced me to buy further bottles :-)

I suspect the ‘85 then would be in the same league as the ‘82, which is just slightly better than the ‘88 imo. Though the ‘88 at the $90-110/bottle price I’ve paid at auction for 3 cases over the last couple of years is a FAR better value than the ‘82. Now if I’d landed some ‘85’s for $115...... [cheers.gif]

Is the 2016 price similar to last year? I have contacted all six retailers I purchase from last year, but allocations are still being decided.
