Adding to the Bordeaux futures, 2015 Pontet Canet. Seemed decent for less than $100.

My local store seems to be closing out their 2010 stuff. I may as well have walked in with a ski mask and gun, because at these prices I feel like I stole it.

What is YOUR most recent wine purchase?

#6011 Post by Robert.A.Jr. » May 20th, 2016, 9:24 am

So my very good friend Ian let me in on the deal, but only after he did a midnight drive-by of every ABC store in Orlando to score all the best stuff. Now mind you, this is the man that I single-handedly turned into an elite cyclist and a wine connoseuer. When I first met him, he was a mountain-biker with hairy legs. And worse, he was a purple drank cretin. I have been a life counselor and spiritual guidance for him for now well over ten years.

And this is how I am rewarded, he left me the dregs of the sale:

Image

2011 Chateau Gazin - $36.98
2012 Ch.La Croix St. Georges- $25.42
2010 Ch. Pape Clement Blanc - $40.91
2010 Ch. Suiduirat - $23.11
2011 Ch. Doisy Vedrines - $9.94
2013 Chimney Rock Sav. Blanc - $17.00

So the question is, do I grab the 2010 Leoville Las Cases for $175 or the 2010 Valandraud for $170?

Robert, you do NOT want the Croix St George or the Gazin. No asparagus. No bell pepper. Actual fruit.

Better send them to me for disposal.

Agreed, that Croix St George is filthy. Wouldn't pay $10 for another bottle. Go with the LLC, your great grand kids will love it!

ABC is a Florida wine and spirits chain. Still family owned, run by the third generation from here in Orlando. Generally pretty reliable selection, especially Bordeaux, in the stores located in higher-demographic neighborhoods.

Here is my haul for the day. Not quite as many high end wines as yesterday, but still some good stuff. And a total score of about 7 cases of wine over 24 hours.

Image
2008 Thunevin Calvet les Dentelles, 9 bottles at $14 per

Image
2010 Lanessan, 15 bottles at $10.30 per

Image
2009 Mon Seul Reve, 2 bottles at 8.55 per, 2009 Hegarty Chamans #1 at $4.27, 2008 Thunevin Maury at $21.50, 2010 Haut Bergey at $18.57, 2010 Virginie de Valandraud, 2 at $28.10 per

Image
2011 Doisy Vedrines at $10.75, 2011 Suduiraut at $21.08, 2006 Fargues at $29.27, 2012 Pape Clement at $41.45

Image
2010 Saint Julien at $16.61, 2010 Troplong Mondot, 2 bottles at $43.50 per, 2010 Pichon Longeville Baron at $115, 2010 Montrose at $124

And if Robert is nice to me, I might pass these along to him;
Image
6 bottles of the 2010 Lanessan and a 2010 Pichon Longeville Baron, which are bottles in addition to everything listed above.

Ian, I'm not a Bordeaux fan (as most of the regulars know from my constant reminders) except for the occasional Sauternes. That 2011 Suduiraut at that price is a friggin' STEAL as are most of those bottles. Nicely done!

Another case of 2014 Pépière "Clos des Briords".

Last night finished off a half-full re-corked bottle that's been sitting in the refrigerator since initially opened 4 dinners ago and the wine tastes as fresh and with a bit more complexity than it already had on the first day.

I was also fortunate enough to cash in on the Florida Bordeaux clearance. Blew my wine budget for at least six months, but it was definitely worth it.
