2000 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (6/29/2009)
Double decanted 3 hrs before dinner. Rich, deep, ripe nose of dried red fruits, tar, dried flowers and a tiny hint of balsam. Elegant, mineral, deep and concentrated palate. Lots of lurking power. This is still 4+ years away from a semblance of maturity, but it has lost a little bit of youthful fat and freshness. While not in the least closed, tannins are present on the long and elegant finish which remains remarkably fresh. Absolutely no harm in drinking this now but still a lot of upside on this wine. Basically delicious.
