TN: 2001 Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Oakville

I wish this was still as inexpensive as it was when I purchased this bottle.

  • 2001 Turnbull Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Oakville - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (6/27/2009)
Initially fairly shut down, this blossomed with a 30 min. decant. Fresh dark fruit, blackberries & black currants. Hints of secondary development are just beginning to emerge - saddle leather, touch of cigar box. Finishes with a touch of sweet oak. Warm sensation on the finish, but really not showing too much alc. Very nice wine. (91 pts.)

I finished my last of these about 2 years ago but still have several of the later vintages in the cellar.

While I agree that it would be nice to still pay the sub $30 price I paid for the 01 and 02, I still think it is a great value at the $35 or so that I pay these days.

I should look around more…I’m not seeing it locally for less than $40, but Cali cab is not usually on my radar screen these days. This wine should make me think twice about that practice.
