DALLAS 2ND WEDNESDAY GROUP - JUNE 2009 - Bolsa in Oak Cliff (6/9/2009)

The Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group got together this month on Tuesday (go figure) to sample a grab bag of White and Red Burgundies. Only restriction was they had to be Premier or Grand Cru only.

Champagne to start as always here in Dallas…

New label. Purchased this batch in January 2008 and allowed to it to sit in the cellar for almost 18 months. I think these MV Krug benefit a bit with some age. Yellow color in the glass. clear hue throughout with light beading. Nose of baked apples, pears and a dash of ginger. Flavors of lemon zest, pineapple and a dash of pear over the medium finish. Bright acidity, medium body. Drink over the shorter term. (92 pts.)

Opened and served immediately. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Slightly subdued nose giving way to notes of sulphur, light notes of spearmint, paraffin and wet stones. Flavors of pears dominate laying over a bed of minerals. Medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink over the short to medium term. I’ll likely my remaining bottles between now and 2012. (90 pts.)

Opened and served immediately. Dark yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of graham crackers, allspice, florals and a mix of brown spices. Flavors of pears with a dash of lemon and some underlying minerals. Medium acidity and body. Drink now. (91 pts.)

Opened and served immediately. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of apples, vanilla, spiced pear and a dash of sulphur. Flavors of pears, apricot core, persimmon and a little lemon. Medium acidity, light to medium body. Drink over the short term, medium if you’d like to push it. This bottle was just a step or two behind the previous bottle tasted. (90 pts.)

Opened and allowed to glass decant approximately and hour to 90 minutes before serving. Dark garnet color in the glass, slightly opaque looking. Nose of peet up front followed by notes of florals, berries and wet stones. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and a bit of minerality. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink or hold over the short, perhaps medium term. (91 pts.)

Nose of thistle, black cherries, black berries and later on a bit of smoke and a bit of cocoa powder. Flavors of black berries and black cherries. Medium acidity, medium merging toward integrated tannins, medium body. Drink or hold over the shorter term, perhaps medium term. (92 pts.)
