17 Zichichi zin. First 17' zin I have opened. I had this in the glass several hours and was quite pleased with how it is drinking but it does need more time. Will wait til next summer before opening any additional bottles.

2007 Rhys, Pinot, San Mateo County, Family Farm Vineyard
If I didn’t know better, I would have guessed Sonoma Coast, because it has that spiciness to it. I’m also guessing it’s lost its fruit. Still an enjoyable wine, even if I held it too long. BTW, it threw a lot of sediment.

2016 Domaine Monier Perréol St. Joseph

Quite a refreshing and gulpable Northern Rhône and sub$40. Reminded me of the Texier-style.

  • 2018 Château de Bonnezeaux Bonnezeaux Vieille Vigne du Fief Prévost - France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Bonnezeaux (9/12/2020)
I was floored by the 2017 La Montagne but I suspect this was a slightly off bottle. Rich and nutty profile (perhaps from the wood), very high acid that seemed disjointed with the 15% alcohol. Someone with previous experience with this bottling said this wasn’t a correct showing, and someone else said it smelt like mooncakes / lotus paste on the nose. Only 1050 bottles made so let’s see if I can find another one of this to try.
  • 2015 Le Clos du Caillou Côtes du Rhône La Réserve - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (8/12/2020)
Wonderful juicy red fruits, a massive dollop of sweetness that definitely points to southern Rhone. Balanced by a huge concentration that made it have less structure and depth than their CDP bottling, but it is fresher and effortlessly more elegant. Only thing I didn't like was that there was definitely some funk going on here and with air it became a little alcoholic and hot. Can go further but why wait?

Had to Pobega this for my first 2018 white Burgundy experience. Very pleased with the QPR

2018 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne Blanc Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 'Au Bout du Monde'
Better drunk cold-ish; florals, lemon/lime, and a lovely creamy texture; all held in tension by acidity that is just... adequate; hallmark reduction is perceptible if you really look for it, adding an undertone of complexity; a real charmer of a wine that performs well above its level, but likely not one for the long haul; good minus

2012 Domaine de Montille Corton-Charlemagne: Aromas of ripe white peach and flowers. The palate is broad and concentrated with layers of stone fruit and a hint of wax. Good minerality. At the riper end of white burgundy. Tasty.

1988 Château Rieussec: Delightful nose of burnt sugar and candied orange peel. The palate is sweet and complex but balanced by good acidity. Notes of creme brulee, apricot, orange and honey. A tasty, mature Sauternes.

Accidentally brought the wrong glass but the Grassl Cru worked surprisingly well for whites too, more so for the Burg unsurprisingly.
  • 2011 Rudi Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Terrassen - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (12/12/2020)
Wow I knew Rieslings go on forever but this Gruner is fresh as a daisy now. Don’t have much experience with Gruner but didn’t pick up any white pepper here. The litmus test for a good wine is balance and this is just so brilliantly done - love the textural elegance with acidity and intensity. Completely dry, some fresh lime and grapefruit. Drinking wonderfully now.
  • 2015 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault (12/12/2020)
Thought this domaine laid off the oak in recent years but the wood still dominates on the nose and texture. Floral and vanilla smell, simple and ripe fruits on day 1 that was marred by a slightly sour and bitter finish but thankfully it dissipated on the second day. Became heftier and much more enjoyable, strong citrus and grapefruits. Well-made wine, on discount this is fairly priced.

2012 Barnett Vineyards Merlot Spring Mountain District - USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District (12/11/2020)
Day 1: Last bottle and I would recommend drink now. Tobacco, dried leaves, cherry, spice and sour raspberries. Medium finish and good acidity. Peaking. 92 points
Day 2: Not as good. Earth, raisins, sour raspberries and dried leaves. Drink immediately.
Recommendation: This is not the amazing 05 of this wine and should be consumed immediately. (92 points)

Thanks. I bought 18 of these and tried one over the summer but no memory of it and didn't leave a tasting note. Will have to pop open another soon.

I’ve drunk two bottles and I think this note is pretty much my take as well. I like it. Another person in my tasting group tried it and decided not to purchase any 2018 white Burgundy!

2005 Chasse Spleen, still a good deep colour red at the rim, oak and dark fruit on the nose, tannins well integrated, but for me, the figgy aftertaste was slightly disappointing as it came over as a little over ripe. No need to rush this, but I don’t think I will rush back to the rest of my bottles either.

Really excellent, big structure for this estate. Better on second day. This one is an ager, IMHO.

2000 Chateau Siran
Absolutely pristine bottle; sweeps you up in a whirlwind of all the classic Bordeaux flavors; flourish of green leaves and violets, supported by loads of delicious dark fruit and somewhat rustic but ripe tannins; progressively closed up after an hour open, which was a pity, but speaks to the sheer amount of substance in this wine; good plus plus with upside

Damn damn I’m jealous. Have a soft spot for what this once-classic Chateau was! I need to find more 2000. This is the first Chateau in Bordeaux that I ever visited, was in 1996.

Opened for a Zoom tasing and I expected it to be wonderful - I've always liked the Les Pavots and their chardonnays are my favorite. I decanted two hours ahead. Color was deep garnet with some bricking. Very perfumed nose. But, the wine was way too hot and alcoholic. The fruit was smothered. Just totally missed the boat on balance. I have another bottle but I don't think age will improve. The Zoom all said they've had similar experiences with other '97's (except the Phelps Insignia). Of course, my friend was cooing about the 2000 Pichon Baron - I should have stood up a Pauillac!
I had this about 10 years or more ago and agree with you. I got rid of the rest of my bottles.

2011 Rivetto Barolo Serralunga D'alba. Just starting it's drinking window. Wonderful barolo with a bright cherry note on the nose and a silky mouth feel. Classic barolo components here in balance and harmony...a real treat.
