2013 Andrew Will Champoux Vineyard. Fresh and Vibrant. Still some time left. Fantastic stuff with a very weighty mid palate for a Washington wine. Love it:)

2004 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot. The tannins are still there, but so is the fruit...and a lot of wood.

2013 Domaine Heresztyn/Heresztyn-Mazzini Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village - this was a ridiculous value from Envoyer at $30. Wish I listened to others here and bought more.

Still some time left? Andrew Will wines are noted for their longevity and I would expect the 2013 Champoux to be near peak in another decade. Glad that it showed well in it's youth.

2018 Patricia Green Dry Muscat Ottonel. What a cool wine. Light. Fruit and flowers. The finish is pleasing, drying, "lemony" and lingers on the back roof of my mouth. I'm copping out with the word "lemony"; it is something different that I can't pull up the name.

1964 G Mascarello Barolo Riserva
Bottle had been standing for 6 months+; decanted at 10am and drank at 7pm; poured star bright with a very light color - almost rose like; very sweet red fruit, preserved plum, vegetal, tea, soil-like notes and a coppery tang on the palate; the flavors are wispy and light bodied yet with sneaky persistence - ethereal even; bit of a let-down due to the lack of aromatic fireworks, though it is strangely gourmand with food; 24h in, this hasn't budged and it's safe to say the fireworks aren't coming; nonetheless solidly good

1994 Guigal La Turque
Dusty Syrah funk on the nose - but somehow contained, as if a messy shrub has been trimmed just so and placed in a carefully curated pot for display; gloriously silky palate showing elegant red fruit, garnished with a little meatiness; shares certain similarities with good aged Barolo: tertiary fruit that's juicy on the finish with a tarry undertone; the finesse here is impressive; very good minus

With dinner of mugifuji pork belly slices, stir fried with fresh mushrooms, flavored with soy sauce.

2018 Laurent Fayolle ‘Hauterives’ Crozes-Hermitage Blanc

I don’t drink much Rhone whites, most instances would be in offlines and certainly very rarely at home by myself, but this medium-low acid wine with mostly mineral component hit it well with our main dish. As well as provided a nice, refreshing lounge-around wine on a warm, clear summer evening.

Definitely bottle shocked and too early to open it but I couldn't resist especially since I wanted to compare notes with another wine geek. Overall, we thought it had good fruit, was medium bodied, and had a tannic finish. It will be really interesting to taste it in a couple of months. It seemed to have the right ingredients for a great QPR wine. I'm holding off on tasting the cabernet (No 2 offering I think). [cheers.gif]

Finished up a bottle of Patricia Green 2018 Muscat. Really enjoy this light floral lemony wine which can show bright pleasant acid by itself and with a variety of food. Tonight I finished up the bottle with some leftover charcuterie from Fathers day (prosciutto, serrano ham, salami) and the acid took back stage to a more vibrant and full flowers and lemon. Delish!

Been following a 2015 Château Haut-Brisson and this is night 4. Decanted and back in the bottle, recorked, in the fridge. It won’t see another day. cherry and menthol nose, fresh (balanced acidity) cherry and blueberry on the attack with a lingering blueberry finish. Oak is in check and tannins feel resolved. Not sure when this will peak but guessing 3-5 years or 4+ hour decant to enjoy the delicious fresh fruit today.

I know this isn’t a particularly special bottle but it gives me hope that my lack of patience to age some Bordeaux will be worth it!

Wife’s birthday

2010 David Leclapart L’Amateur
1984 Adega Cooperativa de Redondo Alentejo Garrafeira: birth year wine purchased for 9 EUR in a small Lisbon wine shop. Cork protruding, soaked all the way through, low shoulder fill, but after 3 hours decanting this has some life with chocolate, dark cherry, some wood, some tobacco and a reasonable finish. Not a game changer, but one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve had.

2019 Turley White Zin
This was really nice. Soft. Peach. Went great with Indian food. Glad I have another bottle.

2917 Goodfellow Berserker Cuvee PN
I read that Marcus Goodfellow XXVI was especially proud of this one. Only 2.6% ABV, strong aromatics of petrified charcoal, green prunes, and wild forest bitters.

MG XXVI is still AFWE!

1990 P. Licht-Bergweiler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese with a panko crusted chicken breast and a spicy honey sauce. A little heat. A little sweet.
