2017 Enfield foot tread rosé. I'd put it up against pretty much any rosé out there. Very ageable, turns into a superlight bojo.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
84' Spottswoode, the fruit on this has faded and at least for this bottle, it was slightly beyond its drinking window. I have one more bottle and will see if its in better shape soon.
16 Outpost Zinfandel, this is drinking really nice. Have quite a few more of them to enjoy.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
2003 Château Lascombes - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (5/12/2020)
Delicious bottle of mature Bordeaux an an amazing step up since the last bottle drank in '17. Concentrated, mature fruit flavor profile with earthy notes and elegant balance. Fully resolved tannin. Unfortunately my last bottle but I would guess this wine will be at peak for at least 5 more years. (93 pts.)

Too bad. Sipping an '08 Lanessan now that I picked up today for ~$30. Your kind of wine. Could be mistaken initially for a Chinon, though it's fleshing out a bit.

Interesting. Thanks for the note. Their regular "Les Cornuds" Vinsobres can be very impressive in a lot of years. I'd never heard of the Hauts de Julien bottling before. At 2.5x the price of the Cornuds, I'd guess it's quite impressive!Sarah Duke wrote: ↑May 12th, 2020, 5:13 am 2015 Perrin Les Hauts de Julien Vinsobres

Opened a 2015 Geyserville last night. Very ripe black fruit profile, had prominent alcohol on the finish. Yes, I know Ridge wines can age, but not sure about this one.

2018 Lioco Chardonnay, Sonoma..Pleasant, refreshing midweek chard, reasonably priced, crisp but not bracing or shrill acidity..Seems designed for short term drinking, doubt it will reward extended cellaring, drink now to end of 2021.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
2017 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Clos des Ursules. First time trying it (and having any Jadot nicer than their $16 Bourgogne Rouge). It might be all the top-notch Oregon Pinot I've had lately, but this felt a little bit new world to me? Big plushy red fruits on the nose, a slightly plushy body with juicy acidity, nice tannins. Good value at $50 but for that money I'd rather have Barthod's Les Bons Batons.

Opened these last weekend:
2005 Cayuse Syrah en Cerise
2014 Cayuse Syrah en Cerise
2005 Buccella Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 DeLille Cellars Roofline
The Cayuse really benefits from aging, though the 2014 was more approachable on day 2. You may wonder why the Cayuse lasted so long? The answer is that my wife doesn't like it. May gain.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
2007 Bisceglia “Gudarrà” Aglianico del Vulture. This one is showing some tertiary notes that weren’t present in bottles of the 2005 and 2006 I’ve had over the last few months. If you’ve got any, now’s a good time to enjoy it. The tannins have smoothed out and there are still some fruit elements present to balance out the savory. Lots of sediment, though, so definitely stand up for a week or so in advance, if you can.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
2006 Jean-Marc Pillot Chevalier-Montrachet
Distressingly dark and apple cidery when sampled with Coravin on 5/15, though this cleared up after a day or so in the fridge (in the meantime we had the 2007 Dauvissat Forest instead). Light, soaraway character to the nose - very treble, with white flowers, lemon cream, and traces of nuttiness and white mushroom. The pedigree of the vineyard is clearly apparent in the balance of the wine, as well as the substantial mouthfeel, but this is too diffident & unfocused and doesn't appear to have achieved its full potential. Though not great value, this is still an enjoyable drink. Good
2007 Dauvissat Forest
A relief to open a thoroughly sound bottle after the scare with the J-M Pillot Chevalier. Smacks you in the face with a strong green apple nose tempered with a honeyed, aged character that keeps it just this side of friendly. The palate has great cut and salinity, with a chalky character that begins as a suggestion but then rises and rises out of the ground like a white monolith, setting the stage for a long, satisfying finish. Good
2001 Lynch Bages
Lighter bodied red fruit at first with a delicate, juicy character at first. Puts on weight with an hour or two of decanting to reveal a classic, perfumed nose in the Bordeaux style - dark fruit, cedar, earth, an undertone of spice. Silky palate with the tannins nicely integrated. Just perfectly balanced without a hair out of place. No worries drinking it at this point, especially with a steak, but this will improve for another 5-10 years easily. Good plus

2015 Quilceda Creek CVR. PnP - hot oak monster. 20 minutes in the glass and it transformed into a very smooth, restrained, and lovely wine with a sweeter nose and no sign of 15.2% alc. A comeback for the ages.

Re: What bottle of wine did you open today?
Last night: 2016 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron. Kind of kicking myself for drinking it so young, but it was slamming (and I have a '16 of the real deal to pop in a few decades). Two and a half hour decant – inky purple-black and just from watching it pour into the decanter, you could tell it was going to be a big, rich, mouth-filling wine. On the nose, the expected Paulliac dark fruit, along with cedar, graphite, black olive/petrol, toasted bread and cigar tobacco. The palate followed the nose, along with some really nice coffee/mocha notes and good acidity to keep it from being too gloppy. Got this on a Last Bottle marathon, wish I had gone for more than a single bottle.
