1998 Raymond-Lafond Sauternes. Beautiful amber color. Honey, apricot caramel. Rich mouthfeel. Finish of tropical fruit, even a little tart. Short finish.

I only drink Sauternes when I’m flying internationally, usually on an Air France flight. I always ask myself, why don’t I drink this at home?

I eventually bought some, finally opened it, and of course am asking myself...why don’t I drink more Sauternes?

Lots of Champagne. Mostly Taittinger which even with shipping is so much cheaper in the UK. Just bought the 2005 Comtes for $85 delivered.

Just a simple pinot grigio from the restaurant’s wine list. Not bad.

Last night I opened a 2001 P. Licht Bergweiler Erben Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese. It was very good (maybe 88 pts), but probably the worst Auslese I've had thus far. However, it's hard for me to complain when the bottle (750ml) only cost about $23.

Scorzone. The owner of the restaurant is an Italian fellow originally from northeast Italy (Venice). His sons (half Filipino) pretty much run the place while he comes and goes, bringing back goodies from the old country every so often.

Grivot Vosne Beaumonts 2006 last night...closed and very ripe... fridged it overnight and took it for lunch today... it had magically opened... red fruit, typical Grivot young and delicious... go figure...

1965 Charles Krug Cab—still kickin! Ripe red fruits don’t exactly explode out of the glass, but come through with some air. A bit of eucalyptus and black truffle on the nose—a cab that could almost be mistaken for an old Pomerol. Relatively short finish but very elegant and held together well (or seemed like it would have if I hadn’t finished it so quickly). 91/92.

I’m fascinated by the history of this bottle, where the grapes were harvested a couple of months before the fight that sent Robert Mondavi off on his own. I have a few bottles of this left as well as a few of the ‘74 Mondavi Reserve—will maybe try to open them together next time.

Nice note. Old and historic. I have never tasted a 60's Cali Cab, although I did nose a good one once.

2004 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard. Might be a WOTY for me. Also got this for $80 a few years ago at the PA State Wine Store, which was a relative bargain.

Over the last few nights while camping:

A magnum of 2010 Marchesi di Barolo Cannubi. AG said this was an early drinker and gave an end date of 2018. Um, no. It’s drinking very well with some air but it’s still a young’un with serious tannins. It’s also a better wine than Galloni seems to think it is.

A magnum of 1995 Burgess Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Vintage Selection. Wow, this was just singing. Velvety texture, fully resolved tannins, vibrant and tart black fruit and black liquorice, excellent acidity, not a hint of this getting tired, and none of the sweetness to the fruit that I find on older vintages of lesser Cali Cabs.

Funky- orange Sicilian number from Il Censo: Praruar. Like a horesy-Sicilian sweat-apricot cider-cordial. Actually Good on a hot night and paired well with the Korean fried chicken I made.

We had a small gathering in SF today and opened a 2014 MacDonald in memory of Alan Eden and the spirit of “drink that wine.” It was delicious.

Others not shabby either.

Well, I used to wonder what does sake taste like (http://questionjapan.com/blog/food-and- ... aste-like/)? But now, I'm a Sake-addict already. Everytime, going out with friends, we will have some sake with sashimi :))).

Yea, no doubt. I got it at a restaurant tonight, so was a bit more painful, but to be candid, wish I had paid the $50 extra for the 2005. These wines need time.

True. I had an ‘07 in January that was just terrific with 2-3 hours of air. It wasn’t in any danger of losing ground soon.

Field Recordings Fiction 2016. Really wonderful QPR for $17 (although, I can see a lot of people here not loving it). Certainly fruit forward and substantive, but just enough balancing flavors to prevent it from being a pure fruit bomb or too simple, in my opinion; wonderful mouthfeel.

2016 and 2017 Baudry Chinon Les Grezeaux

Received late last week and with reading recent enthusiastic TNs, I opened a bottle each over the weekend.
Quite a night and day experience it was.

2016: Tight, tannic, perhaps in a closed phase. B+/B

2017: High red-fruit acidity, open, willing, enjoyable to drink. A-/B+
