1995 Gazin. I just love Pomerol. I love wines that have plenty in the bottom register but don't feel weighted down, and that is the most prominent feature of these wines. At 24 years of age, this felt downright spritely. Silky mouthfeel and was just too easy going down. Love it.

2012 Sojourn Ridgetop Pinot Noir. Love me some Sojourn with some age on them. Cherries and spice. Really smooth and elegant.

2016 D’Angerville Volnay. I knew it was too young but wanted to try it out to get a sense for his style.

Not a fan. Too tight. I prefer my wines to be more lively, spirited, fresh and airy and yet having a punch. Might try an aged Angerville before moving on.

2014 Akemi Rioja Blanc. Wishing I'd bought more. It was redolent with peaches and white flowers, and was just the thing to open on the first gorgeous warm sunny day. Paired nicely with grilled shrimp.

1996 Veuve La Grande Dame - Very fresh and very vibrant with an energetic mousse and bright fruit. This has expanded and integrated with time, and it's really quite harmonious--if not as grand or deep as the best of the '96s. A delicious, fun wine that is in no danger of fading.

Live in Midcities, Work in Uptown. Frequently go to La Cave, Sigel's and Pogo's for wine tastings. Will never turn down a chance to go to other tastings. Have learned a lot from all 3 especially the chance to try more wines from outside the US. I was looking for an into type thread but can't find one....

About to turn 36, been drinking wine for around 11 years. I currently have around 260 bottles in my storage. I finally got serious about storage in the last 6 months have a Le Cache cellar that holds around 425, to go along with the small 40-50 bottle wine cooler I use for whites that i dont want to age and my sparkling collection.

Really started experimenting with buying wine with Wine.Woot (and now Casemates) once I moved to Texas from MS, that was my biggest introduction to smaller Cali, Oregon, Washington producers...and let me train my pallet so much from the sweet wines I started with so many years ago from some texas wineries. Over the past couple of years, I started finding out about tastings at Sigels, went to a few at Jimmys, and then found out about Curt and Rhonda at La Cave, and most recently found out about Pogo's. Also over the past few years we have gone back down to texas hillcountry and joined a few wineclubs at Becker (reds), Ab Astris, William & Chris, and most recently the premium wines from Messina Hof.

Thanks guys. Would love to see if we could do some more get together's more regular. I hate I missed out on the 2 day party last year I found the thread for. I saw a BYOB thread around here somewhere also and want to update it since it's several years old. My biggest goal with wine right now (besides learning any chance I can) is trying to stock up on 2016 Bordeaux, Burgundy, Sauternes, Port, Champagne, and Cali Cabs... at least because I got married in 2016. One of my bigger purchases I have made recently was to buy a 1983 vintage port, since that is my birth year. planning to hold that until 2033.

2016 Kelby James Russell Cabernet Franc Dry Rose, Nutt Road Vyd, Finger Lakes,NY delicious, delightful, went well with grilled lemon chicken..This is my first wine from this winemaker but probably will not be my last one,,discovered at an in-store tasting, one of the other tasters said that while this was her own label, Kelby is the winemaker at Red Newt (Seneca), in Finger Lakes

Last night at a dinner, I tried out a bottle of ‘97 Artadi Pagos Viejos (no photo unfortunately). Thin, barely medium bodied, a bit hollow, and the acidity juts out - out of balance with the fruit. I gave it around 2&1/2 hours to see if it would flesh out/gain some heft. It didn’t.

Two bottles of 2014 Paetra Riesling Eola-Amity Hills with a few colleagues and it was wonderful! Purchased at BerserkerDay ... I had been so glad that Bill offered it since I had finished my stash from his first release and the last bottle had been amazing. I was so glad I lightly chilled a second bottle since we did not want to stop!

2015 Littorai Haven - this sucker is waaaaaaay too young. Was too lazy to dig around for a 2012 in my cellar so grabbed this. It's got the stuffing though, and should be a beauty in 5+ years.

Nice wine. Fairly traditional but not overly rustic. Feral, slightly funky, savory notes predominate, with taut spine of acidity and middleweight and smooth tannins. No perceptible wood. A bit angular right now but good potential

We accidentally and fortuitously had a Lanson Noble Rosé at Bucks last night. I say it was an accident because the producer is mostly unfamiliar to me, I bought them from envoyer some time ago on a whim, and grabbed it because I thought this was one of the relatively low cost rosés I have been trying to build out the depth of the cellar. Turns out that this is their tête cuvee, and the cheapest replacement bottle is $100. Most places are at $140 and up.

I say fortuitous because I constantly find myself fighting a decades long tendency to calibrate the "importance" of a dinner and the cost/specialness of the wine I open, which is stupid. So it was a great thing that I was ignorant in this instance because I never would have opened it last night had I known. Which, again, is stupid.

Anyway, the wine was absolutely delicious. It was able to give generously while maintaining great precision and focus. Just love it. I probably won't be a buyer at $100, because I very, very rarely pay that for a bottle of wine, but if Greg offers again at the $70 I paid, I will definitely buy more. Really really good wine.

+12!!!

I'm in for another case if I see it again. I think I only paid $50 last time, and my blind purchased six pack was an inadequate sum. I knew I liked the '00 BdB Noble, so I gave these a shot. Really good wine!

Cheers,
Warren

Ordered btg and was a solid pairing with Steak Mazemen (broth-less ramen) at Niche-Nakamura NYC.

Drinking a very unassuming 2011 Pegau Cuvee Reservee. Pleasant, very classic in style, but not overly complex. But it hits the spot.

Serendipity: An old friend from France came to our house for dinner. We were drinking beer (3F Armand & Gaston and Kriek) as we were eating fish tacos, but later he announced it was his birthday. I asked what year he was born and he said 1976. I just happened to have a 1976 La Conseillante standing up as I had been looking for an opportunity to try it, so we opened it up.

The wine was very good and apparently well stored. It has a very silky texture and retains quite a bit of fruit. Not at the level of the best vintages but worth a try if you like the chateau.

2001 Seavey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/23/2019)
Drank this beautiful mature Cab last evening with grilled beef tenderloin. Delicious mature dark fruit, earth and graphite. Amazingly, this 18 year old Cab still has some unresolved tannin. Drink now or hold for further development. I am happy to have 4 more in the cellar. (93 pts.)

Kelby is a good winemaker and consults/makes wine for a few other labels in FLX.

2000 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino. I actually opened it last night but there was so much Brett, I let it decant for a day. The barnyard turned to saddle leather and it's awesome today. Got these at an auction for $35, so I'm a happy camper.
