2006 Lynch Bages - A bit light on structure and density, with moderate to slightly high acidity for the wine. Lovely spice box, cedar, sharpened pencil, and herbs with dusty black and red cherry notes. A nice Pauillac, though not a world beating Lynch Bages. 92

1986 Rausan-Segla last night was brilliant. In a truly lovely place with a penetrating Margaux nose of sweet fruit and cedar and a well integrated, but still-muscular, palate of fresh red and dark fruits and subtle herbal, mineral, and tertiary elements. Still fresh and in no danger of fading.

Great QPR!

2010 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2/15/2019)
Half way through a six-pack and this wine was delicious last evening. PnP and drank with braised pork shoulder. Concentrated medium fruits, licorice, cassis. Beautiful balance and well integrated flavor profile. Ridiculously affordable. May be drinking near peak. Drink or hold. (94 pts.)

2009 Terre Rouge - L'Autre. Beautifully aged Sierra Foothills GSM, heavy on the G - I find Terre Rouge to be complex, elegant and great value.

Not really opening a bottle, but was at Whole Foods last night in their wine bar. They always have two wines on tap, a white and a red. Last night it was a Carbonic Sangiovese from Stoplman. Was quite tasty. Light and fruity with some spice.

Paul: I have seen it on the shelves in California but not here in the East..Local retailer was able to get me some a few years ago, not sure who the distributor might be in your area but wd check with your local retailer..For past few vintages, I have been piggybacking on the Seghesio wine club membership of a friend of mine..and will probably do so again this Summer.

2016 Jack Russian River Pinot Noir. 14% ABV. 25 cases made. This is bottle 49. A new offering from Chris Iannetta and Vernon Wells. Popped and poured it's tight and would pass for a Syrah. After 30 minutes it is still tight but the black fruits are emerging, the finish lengthening and acidity if noticeable instead of alcohol. The bottle will be empty before it opens all the way so if you got any of this wine, put it in the cellar for 5 or 10 years. 45 minutes and the finish has extended, adding an early flash of stem or green flavor that precedes the waves of black fruits.

At one hour, there is a kitchen spice component that has joined the black fruit and made it even more interesting.

2016 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie Cuvee Tardive. Out of 375. Excellent with a grilled NY strip. I really need to buy Beaujolais in 375s, an excellent format for the wine.

1994 d'Angerville Clos des Ducs (.375) - a while back I picked up a bunch of these (I think 14) from Spectrum Auction for cheap. I've now opened 5 of them I think, and while they've been variable, overall they have been delicious and resolved and a wonderful batch of half-bottles to have for weeknights. This was the best bottle yet. All have a hard edge to them, with a hint of dryness, but this bottle was fresher and deeper and purer than the rest. This bottle was at peak but it will fade slowly. A couple have been past peak.

1988 Mugneret Clos Vougeot

Somewhat cooked, sadly

VA and other spoilage notes on the nose (cheese rind), did my best to Audouze and with some time it became more pleasant and revealed some complexity and class, and the four square quality of the essential wine. After even more time it shut down behind the spoilage life.

A glimpse through a cloudy window.

I do know how it got cooked - careless handling - which is why I had it front and center for opening.

2016 El Nido Nido: Jumilla, 70% Cab, 30% Monestral. 15.5 ABV. Popped and poured, times. In to the decanter with a heavy pour. After 15 minutes it is supple with black currant, kitchen spices and long smooth finish. Not as big and fruit forward as previous vintages but oh so flavorful. It has to take on garlic spaghetti tonight.

2010 Leoville Barton.

A friend brought it for dinner. I would not imagine touching this wine for another ten years minimum, but it was entirely enjoyable over a several hour dinner, not a tannic beast. More fresh than anticipated given the vintage.

2010 Leoville Barton.

A friend brought it for dinner. I would not imagine touching this wine for another ten years minimum, but it was entirely enjoyable over a several hour dinner, not a tannic beast. More fresh than anticipated given the vintage.
Just found a 1990 Léoville Barton. Thinking it’s the right time.
A drop-dead gorgeous wine! Post a note when you do!!
