2018 Rochioli estate PN wowed me this weekend. Favorite single vineyard blend I've had from them.

Opened the last of Aston Estate last night, and 3/4 bottle is left. This was a 2013 and while it was good, I felt the same "meh" as the last bottle. Loved the 2012. Coincidentally saw today that TRB now owns the property outright.

2018 Yannick Amirault Bourgueil Côte 50. Average. Slightest hint of funk. Mostly fruit with some bell pepper. Grippy tanins with little length or complexity. Easy to drink, easy to forget.

2004 Domaine Tatsis Goumenissa.

First time I've ever tried any Xinomavro (or, really, any good Greek wine at all.....), much less an aged one.

Sort of similar-ish to good-but-not-quite-transcendent Nebbiolo? At least that's the closest frame of reference I have.

Lots of spice, red fruit, alternating aspects of mushroom and stone and iron/blood that all come and go. Still tannic and acidic. Benefited significantly from an hour in the decanter.

Certainly good enough to thoroughly enjoy at $50. Curious to learn more.

Initial aroma of pear, which turned into pear cider as it warmed up. Taste was similar to the nose with it progressing from fresh pear to a strong pear cider note.

Long day of hard work around the house. Deserved this. Plus the first night we could have a nice meal outside.
Smooth. Raspberry and tart cherry. Black pepper and other spices.

2014 Roche de Bellene Grand Cru Vaudésir
I've never been impressed by this négoce label but two perfect bottles of this Chablis this year is turning the tide. This is profound, complex and very lively. It takes a little bit of air for the nose to expand and lose its shyness but then it's white stone fruits, citrus zest, sea breeze and delicate floral notes. The palate is aligned to the nose but with an additional burst of sea foam. It's complex and long with enough body to play along with the citrusy acidity and sea saltiness. Too bad this was my last one. Delicious.

2015 Pierre Breton Bourgueil "Nuits d'Ivresse"

Showing very well for what's relatively young. Black and blue fruit core with nice acidity and good amount of tobacco which I love and not too green. No sulfur makes me wonder if it can be cellared long term, but it is drinking beautifully right now so pop the cork if you have some!

2010 Jean-Marc Vincent Santenay 1er Cru Beaurepaire Blanc - 3rd of 3 bottles purchased for a song from Winebid last summer. The first two were past prime or perhaps stored at less than ideal temp, but this was just beautiful and worth the price for all of them. Perfectly mature, with pastry cream and fresh pear, it has a buttery texture with energetic acidity pushing it forward and a long finish.

15 Bartolo Mascarello Langhe Friesa - more frizzante than I've had before, and caught me a little off guard. It's otherwise a pretty serious little wine.

Halcon vineyard 2018 Oppenlander pinot noir from Berserker day.
Wow. drank so easy once opened. No need for breathing, 1 dimensional on the first few sips but tasty.
The glass after 30 min breathing though more depth. Pepper? spice? on the mid palate. Jammy texture mouth feel? Mid weight pinot, light ruby color. Fruit on the front end and on the nose. But I could taste earthy tones? while drinking.
For the price.... and with reheated mac and cheese and Porkchops. It was great. Looking forward to the other berserker days

I’ve had bottle variation with this as well. I wouldn’t assume poor storage. I expect plain old premox is the likely issue.

2019 Loire Valley reds and whites drank, individually with and after dinner @ home, over the last 2 weeks. The TNs reflect the fact that all bottles were consumed into Day 2.

2019 Philippe Alliet Chinon
Gulpable, juicy, ripe red fruit. Not much in the way of Loire Cab Franc complexity but would be OK in a warm easy-drinking afternoon in the shaded porch. B-

2019 Ch. Yvonne L’Ile Quatre Sous Saumur-Champigny
Bright red berry strawberry acidity, veggie broth, dry herbs. Nice level of green pepper notes all within my preferred structure. Pure, old-school Loire Valley cab franc. A-

2019 Bernard Baudry Chinon Blanc Le Domaine
This under-rated all-Chenin domaine mainstay introduces with complex sniffs of hay, citrus grove, freshly-cut pear.
Supple and quite lush, meyer lemon, mineral notes, smooth-drinking. Could use a more intense finish, but enjoyable, nonetheless. B+

2019 La Pepiere Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie Briords Vieilles Vignes
Racy, seashell, wet stones, lemon, with ripe white fruit lushness that worked well within the refreshing overall scheme. Lip-smacking lengthy finish. Worked well as an aperitif or to down oysters with. A-/B+

2001 Müller-Catoir Haardter Bürgergarten Riesling Spätlese
Lovely variety of fruit - tropical, stone, apple - shaped and focused by hidden reserves of acidity and dry extract; age has melded each component into a broad and easy to drink whole that shows just a trace of petrol; though this would be the perfect stage for some tertiary complexity to strut its stuff, there is disappointingly none of that; good nonetheless
