2014 Trespass Intrigue. Silky smooth, red fruit, cedar and light oak, vanilla. A bit lacking on the mid palate but overall a really nice wine.

2011 Bedrock Zin Saitone Ranch. This was a very pleasant wine. Open for business. Tannins integrated. Smells of dark fruit and earth. Went well with grilled burgers.

2008 Sojourn Cab, Proprietary Cuvée

Great steak wine. Aged perfectly. Pop ‘em if you got ‘em.

Paired with grilled steak, brussel sprouts, and potatoes spiced with Nola’s smoked paprika.

I took a flyer in this bottle a while back, knowing full well that it would unlikely to be in my wheelhouse, but for the sake of science. 2009 Monbousquet blanc. There is simply nothing redeeming about this modern mess. Oh well.

2015 Champalou Vouvray Advertised as "Sec" and, thankfully, truly so. Saved me from the glance and the comments and the judgement from my wife Jacqueline which would all send the same message - SWEETISH!!! As an aside, does anyone know which came first in the Loire region Chenin Blanc wine or goat cheese? Pretty good match for each other!

2014 Birichino Pinot Noir Antle Vineyard.

Trying to get into the Birichino after reading about them on this board. I’m not sure they suit my palate.

2015 Melville Estate Chardonnay. I almost never buy or order chard and this wine is great. No malo, neutral oak, my kinda CA chard at this price. Good schtuff.

2017 Weingut Battenfeld-Spanier Molsheim Riesling trocken

Great value dry riesling. Nose is more complex than I was expecting, initially with ripe pear and green apple notes then evolving into grapefruit and a touch of citrus. There is a crisp and refreshing quality about the wine, not austere, with a nice balance of slate minerality with grapefruit, lime zest, and other citrus flavors. Good acidity and weight on the palate as well.

2019 WOTY (so far):
1987 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
1990 Chateau Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape

1998 Pensees de Lafleur. Probably not a value at the price, but a very lovely wine.
Never had Lafleur or Pensees, I bet the 1998 was fantastic, balanced with some structure.
I went through 3 bottles of the ‘98 Lafleur last year. Yes, firmly structured indeed. Enjoyable; but feel it needs around 3-5 years more to show “all its got”.

1996 Calon Segur - the second 1996 Left Bank I have had in the past several weeks and they are both firmly in their drinking window. The palate is bright with cherries, minerals, and tobacco. Tannins are soft and the finish is long.

Last night at a dinner party:

2015 Martin Mullen Trarbacher Huhnerberg Riesling Spatlese* Trocken ‘3te Terrasse’
2008 Domaine Huet Le Mont Demi-Sec
2015 Domaine de Beaurenard Chateauneuf-Du-Pape
2008 Roagna Barbaresco Paje
2009 Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Altero
2001 Edmunds St John Zinfandel Peay Vineyard
2003 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese GK
2003 Messmer Rieslaner Beerenauslese
2005 Felsina Vin Santo del Chianti Classico

Not a bad bottle in the group. The Huet had this slight cabbage note on the nose but was very sound on the palate. Couldn’t decide on a favorite of the night but the stickies were outstanding yet still so young.

Fun wines with fun Tuscan dinner in the East Village.

1993 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino
2017 Teruzzi & Puthod Vernaccia di San Gimignano
2016 Eisacktaler Kellerei Cantina Valle Isarco Kerner

The Brunelli killed it with terrific pasta and pulpi dishes this evening.

2002 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (3/16/2019)
This was good with grilled tenderloin but all of my bottles of this have been a bit too acidic for my tastes. What I would call a Pinot lovers cab. Keep thinking more time will allow the fruit to overcome the acidity but only have one more bottle left. Night 1 88 pts.

This was better on night two. The acidity gave way to an elegant fruit profile with a tad of alcohol on the finish. I would say 92 on night two. I will probably hold my last bottle for a few years.

I'm not in a hurry to open a Ducru Beaucaillou or Montrose, but I am looking at a couple of others. This one and a recent Leoville Poyferre were lovely.

Neal, I had the 1996 Montrose with Merrill about 5 years ago, and it was beautiful but not as mature as I would like. I'm hanging onto my one remaining bottle. 2000 Montrose is another story - that one may never be ready.

You are forgiven for the extra"n"

2017 Gobeslburg Kamptal Gruner Veltliner. Modest bottle, about $15. Probably the entry level of the Gobelsburg GVs, but delivers more than the generic, often full liter, other GVs that I have had. Very dry, steely, minerally, pleasantly acidic, strong lemon taste mixing with slightly bitter lemon or grapefruit pith, tart plum joins in. All flavors collide and pucker the back of the palate where they linger. Enjoyable by itself and played nicely with our cheese plate. Looking to step up my GV game a bit later this spring with delivery of my Berserker Day Austrian White Sampler purchase from Balanced Wines.

2012 Vincent Arroyo Cabernet Sauvignon Winemakers Reserve. Surprising more restrained and Bordeaux like than what I usually experience with this Calistoga winery. Only 13.6% alcohol. Excellent with our fatty ribeye.
