2001 Chateau Monbousquet
2012 Bedrock Heritage

Gave the 2001 Monbousquet a short decant and it kept improving with air, complex, outstanding Bordeaux. The 2012 Bedrock is showing much more fruit at present than a few months ago, very nice but (obviously) needs more time.

One of the best values I've found. This for $20 is QPR dirty talk.

Here is another Picpoul de Pinet that showed up in my area.. The guys in the UK have talked a lot about the apparent popularity of P de P, but have also mentioned overcropping. Not the case with mine :D .

WTN: 2013 Domaine de Belle Mare Coteaux du Languedoc Picpoul-de-Pinet.

12.5% alc, $19 Cdn, good natural cork, serve well chilled, http://www.belle-mare.com

The color is a medium straw, no green. Very inviting nose that was still good on day 2.....floral, grass, acid, chalky.
Initial entry thought was dry-ish, good length, ample fruit, mineral tones abound. Served blind would fool a few I think. Apple, crisp, good finish.not bitter. "Think there is some salt here" from across the table, imo very much textbook Picpoul. I served with pork medaillons, carrots and bok choy but not a good match. Seafood dish would have gone down well.

Had to open a 2012 Scratch Pinot Noir. We're watching the world series and itching for a Giants win. The wine does not disappoint. The Giants, pending.

Actually, we are getting to taste a couple wines with our sales rep who has been to busy all day to get here any sooner. Both bottles were opened at 8:30 AM and poured during the day at restaurants in the East Bay.

2012 Shane "The Charm" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. 225 cases produced. 14.3 ABV. Made by Shane Finley, winemaker at Lynmar Estate and former associate winemaker at Kosta Browne. Blackberry, black raspberry and black cherry, in that order through the 40 second finish and the black cherry was accompanied by some RRV cola. Getting a little earth too. Impressive and I'll bet it's even better tomorrow.

2012 Hyde Carneros Pinot Noir. 14.9 ABV. Bang. Black raspberry, alcohol/acidity explosion on first sip. This has been open how long?? Black raspberry is dominant. Got some stem on the first couple sips, but it's gone now. There's some black tea components, cinnamon and some minerality as the 30 - 40 second finish comes to an end. Alcohol coming off, acidity holding its own and this wine has some interesting character. Should cellar well and is a show piece now with enough time open or double decant.

Couple of Bedrocks last night:

2013 Bedrock Oakville Farmhouse Heritage
2011 Bedrock Wine Syrah Griffin's Lair

As expected, the Farmhouse was filled with primary fruit upon opening, so much it had to take a trip in the decanter. After a good 90 minutes it really started to sing and continually evolved in glass. Delicious juice and showed a certain subtle elegance despite clearly displaying it's Napa roots.

The 2011 Griffin's was in the decanter for more than 2 hours. Upon first pour the nose was simply intoxicating, with notes of dark fruits, stone fruits, incense, cannabis, and florals. Black raspberries on the palate. Seriously structured, outstanding Syrah which showed quite a bit more open than expected (possibly due to the vintage?). Will be gangbusters after another 2-3 years!

Very cool. Would you mind posting a note with some data points? These are not wines that we see too often and those of us that have a few are looking for the optimal time to pop them. I love love this estate, but must admit to having little experience with it and only a mixed case in my meager possession.

Was debating cracking an '05 tonight.

Not sure how to link to CT, but here is the tasting note:

2008 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg

Hello! Cheval Blanc! Explosive and fragrant nose. Notes of flowers, soils, mushrooms, and oaks. Sweet and smooth on entry, firm mid-palate, fine grained tannins, almost silky. Tangy acidity with good complexity and balance. Label indicated 12.5% with no heat. The finish is just like a fine young Burgundy Grand Cru with lingering fragrance. As PJAINES puts it, this doesn't suck at all. All these are great but will be hard to locate another bottle, not the easiest wine to find here. 93-95 pts.

This is actually my first and only bottle of Clos Rougeard, I am a buyer in the future if I can find them. Enjoy your '05 vintage, I am sure it will be delicious, as '08 is surprisingly approachable with good balance.

2006 Switchback Ridge cab. It danced the hairy edge between being poured down the drain and poured down my maw. Alcohol and oak. I drank most of it but I didn't feel good about myself afterwards

2011 Copain Brosseau Syrah. I have to say wow, as this thing is off to a great start. For me, feels like yet another reason to celebrate a 2011 wine that really turned out fantastic. Such purity and balance, I can only hope it holds up for tomorrow when I work back to it and have the rest of it with my son in law.
My WOTY candidates for 2019:
2014 Marie Courtin Eloquence BdB Extra Brut
2017 Rivers-Marie PN Platt SC
2017 Kutch Pinot Noir SC PN
2009 Roederer Cristal Brut
2017 Carlisle Zin Mancini Ranch RRV

My best wines of 2018:
2017 Kutch Falstaff Sonoma Coast PN
2012 Marguet La Grande Ruelle Ambonnay

Kindness matters.

Last night while trick or treating;

09 Potel Beaune premier something or other- Ok little modern though.
2 btls. 09 Lafarge Volnay VS- Delicious. Drinking great if you like them young.
12 Meo Vosne Romanee- Holy oak batman. Put this away for a decade or so. Not very pleasant.
12 Billaud Simon Vaillons- Good.

At home with friends later we popped;

78 Clair Dau Bonnes Mares - gone baby gone.
96 Rouget Vosne Romanee- Just entering it's drinking window. Still a ton of fruit. If you like more tertiary then let it sit.
90 Lafarge Clos de Chenes- Me no likey. Pruney, over ripe whatever you want to say.

Well, last night my first time really drinking wine. Last time I had wine that I would consider drinking it, if you could say that, was in early 1971, Wild Irish Rose, I think the quart cost me a dollar, (at the time I was 16) I got pretty drunk, pucked my gut's out also. Not a good memory, I tried it again, bought a pint (.33 cents) drank alittle bit of it and either poured it out or gave it to someone. So, also I've tried back then was some Boone's Farm Apple and Strawberry Hill, maybe something called Frapple, it was something of a twist, I really don't remember, but that was at least what was available at the time for a very cheap price. Well, last night I tried a: Two Vines 2012 Merlot, something like a WIR, but not as potent or vicosous. Tonight, a: Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley 2013 Riesling, not too bad. I really have no clue if these wines are that great or whatever, I'm a bourbon, beer guy in heart. I'm going to try and get into this wine, so far not too bad.

2010 Sandlands Mataro
2012 Sandlands Trousseau
2010 Myriad Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain

Pobega'd the Sandlands and both bottles were pretty inspiring. Killer aromatics, especially on the Mataro and both showed an excellent freshness. I just adored the Trousseau...truly a CA interpretation/homage to the Jura.

The Myriad was decanted for about 2 hours, could have used 3. The Spring Mtn is usually my least favorite of the Cabs (which is really splitting hairs) but man oh man, it was epic and kept becoming more & more nuanced...definitely a "last sip" kinda wine and one I could drink all night. Awesome stuff.
