TN: 2005 Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard

  • 2005 Sbragia Family Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County (12/31/2011)
Opened about 30 minutes before pouring and enjoyed over the next two hours. Deep garnet color with very minimal sediment. The nose is more savory than sweet; intriguing, if somewhat reticent. On the palate, the fruit leans more to the red end of the spectrum and is accented by notions of sweet pipe tobacco and just tilled soil. Medium bodied; the tannins are round and more resolved than I’d expected. This is a very enjoyable bottle and a really nice departure from its familiar Napa cousins. No need to wait, if you’ve got some in the cellar. (92 pts.)

“This is a very enjoyable bottle and a really nice departure from its familiar Napa cousins.” Totally agree. I find myself drinking more Sonoma and less Napa over time and i like what Sbragia does with his reds since most of his great fruit sources can take the moderate oak.
