TN: `02 Taz Fiddlestix Pinot Noir, `08 Domaine Faury St Joseph

  • 2002 Taz Pinot Noir Fiddlestix - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County (11/9/2011)
    Dark red garnet coloration.
Expressive nose of dried blueberries, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, clove, and molasses. Medium bodied, nice - lively acidity. Good tannin structure, and an intoxicating dried fruit and spice laden mouth palate. 2 minute finish with the mincemeat pie characteristic leading the charge. Drinking superbly at the moment. Reminds me of “christmas in a glass” with the brown spice vibes. Think mulled wine, or mincemeat pie. If that’s your thing, then you would appreciate this wine at its current stage.
  • 2008 Domaine Faury St. Joseph - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph (11/9/2011)
    Garnet red color.
Notes of menthol, spearmint, cracked white pepper, fresh herbs, raspberries and cherries. Medium to lean bodied with mid-range acidity. Extremely soft tannins, with a thin, disappearing finish. Overall; Good, not great. Best with food and not as a stand alone. Drink now as opposed to cellaring, as the brett will grow to engulf this wine.
