Pepiere Muscadet.

“red wine”

Mass market:
Nine North Wine Co Ten Mile “The Broken Road” which is a zin/pets/carignane/barbera blend ~$10 and very nice for the price
Bogle Petite Sirah
Educated Guess Cab

A little more rare:
Carlisle Syrah Sonoma County
Bedrock Syrah Sonoma County
Novy Syrah SLH

I think you would like the Sherman & Hooker’s Shebang (Bedrock Wine Co.) Cuvee IV Red Blend, it’s a great buy for $12

Castello Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva (this consistently over delivers)
Marques de Murrieta Rioja Reserva (enjoying the '05, classic Rioja QPR)
Tasca d’Almerita Lamuri Nero d’Avola ('08 demonstrates Nero d’Avola can be elegant and a crazy deal)

Stefania should be on my list as well. I just went to CT and looked at my under $20 wines, but no Stefania Haut Tubee - Drank all of them already.

Definitely. I didn’t include it on mine because it is $25 here, but I see some for $19.99

Yeah, the '06 was selling through at ~ $17 recently and the '07 is out ~ $18 here.

I haven’t had many lately that are worth mentioning, but I’ll throw out this one ($12 at - gasp - BevMo):
2008 Rivetto Nebbiolo ‘Lirano’

Also, I concur with whatever Novy syrahs fit the price range…

All three of these are very good, available under $20 (in fact, I’ve purchased them all under $15 within the last year), and have been consistent over the past few vintages:

Monsanto CCR
Ch. Pesquie “Terrasses”
Vietti “Tre Vigne” Barbera d’Asti

Vincent Ricard Trois Chenes touraine
Pepiere muscadet
Colene Clemens Rose of Pinot
The rebranded CH havens bourriquot is a winner but I think long gone.

  1. Yves Cuilleron - Syrah Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes
  2. Evodia - Garnacha
  3. Casa de Saima - Bairrada Reserva

Lafond SRH pinot noir

Marrietta petite sirah

And maybe the Maison Bleue Jaja which I’m opening tonight!

Copain Syrah Tous Ensemble – CT shows the average price at less than $20 for the 2007 (which I picked up for $16.50). I had one over the last two nights and it’s in a really nice place right now.

It’s better than most red wines, period. When you consider the price range, it’s even harder to beat.

I’ve had it a couple of times at a wine bar and I’ve really enjoyed this.

I think Novy Syrahs are well worth the freight in this price range too.
