I still have 3 or 4 bottles from the 2009 offer. Time to revisit

11/19 offer for 2015 Mystery Brunello for $80 has arrived. Wondering if anyone local bought and has picked this up. I got a couple and am curious what it is.

I've got a bottle, and I have never found an occasion to open it. It sounds like it will not degrade quickly when opened, so I guess I should just give it a try.

Jealous. I'm in Marin and nothing yet. I think I have 5 or so cases--not sure if that is part of the problem. Hopefully they'll ship soon. I'm mostly curious about what some of the mystery wines are.

I had 3 full cases and a partial shipped, with a few of the items literally showing as "arrived" 2 days before shipping. I had written them to set my status to travel and not ship before the 18th of November. They said that's when they were going to ship anyway but I wonder if that prompted me to get to the front of the line?

No wines in San Diego yet. Its so funny - I swore off back in 2016 but got sucked back in on the mystery wines.....I keep checking to see if anything has shipped on their website...

Update on Mystery Wines: For some reason a random case (out of 4 still to ship) showed up at my offsite last week and I just went by today to take a look. Inside was “Gigondas Mystery” ordered June 26. Turns out to be 2018 Domain Notre Dame des Pailleres.

Also inside was “Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Mystery” ordered approximately July 30. Turns out to be 2017 Martin Ray Synthesis.

Four other cases still waiting on…

I've never heard of this producer, but at $14 from Jon, and with a 4* note from JLL and with WS showing a $24-$28 price range, I'm upset only that I didn't buy more than three...

I've never seen it in the states though I've tasted it in Gigondas. It's a good, well-made wine. It won't replace other traditional domaines liike Raspail Ay or Gour de Chaulé, but for $14, I doubt you'll be unhappy.

I normally avoid $50 mysteries, but I threw in for one of today's BdM hoping it is Il Poggione, given that a) he has offered it before, b) today's price is the exact same price he offered the 2015 for (though not as a mystery), c) that offer was sold out before I got to it, and d) I just had a 2001 Il Poggione and really enjoyed it.

It's probably something totally different but the risk I'll hate it seems minimal.

I bought the brunello mystery, as well.
I still don't quite understand the shipping process. Do they only ship a couple of times a year?

Automatic 2 shipping windows per year. Spring/ Fall. Month depends on your state
Case shipments only

You can arrange special shipping anytime at your risk. They call it Cowboy shipping. There is a link when you can pick the date to ship and accept responsibility for heat/cold. You can also ask for less than case shipping.

Thanks! I thought I had a case put together already, but half of it is still pre-arrival. I guess I'll wait. :)

I love Cynar - was there an offer I missed? I'm also curious if this is something that would be better with age, or just a more original recipe??

The offer was from 10/18. There were a number of things offered, so you probably accidentally passed over it. I hope it's still good. I don't know how much the recipe has changed over the years. It's said to be an "original bottle".

We have a fantastic SnapTastic selection of choices below – including a few bottles of very rare 1970’s Cynar and Brandy as well as our “infamous” Fir Tree Honey.

Truffle Salt?

Yes!

Dueling Gruners from Pichler and Prager?

Yup.

Sparkling Cabernet Franc rosé from…Provence?

Uh, yes indeed.

Lots to choose from – have a great day!

1970’s Cynar 1000ml (Italy) - $118.71
LIMIT 1/person

A mixologist collectable and semi-cult bottling from the same Steve McQueen era of the early-mid 1970’s, this is the original Italian artichoke herbal/plant infusion aperitif that several barsmith friends of mine would (literally) chop off my right hand to acquire (not their hand, but my hand...as I’m holding the bottle to show them). In a cocktail “mix-off” competition, certain ingredients are held back until absolutely necessary to gain that magic edge. This is one of those ingredients and this set of original bottles is fleeting indeed...

I still don't quite understand the shipping process. Do they only ship a couple of times a year?
I bought an old bottle of Cynar (1970's) in October, and I'm impatiently waiting...

Exactly, I definitely skipped over that. Well, I hope you will report back on how it is once you receive it!

Found it interesting that he never mentioned the actual vintage. I came as a fast follower to the 2015 brunello mystery deal but never explicitly stated the vintage (unless I missed it). At ~$87 and "small, top-end producer" (unclear what one defines as small and top-end) the list is narrow for BdM.

I just put in my first request with Garagiste. Do the offers normally sell out very quickly? The first one I clicked on was already gone after receiving the email less than 30 minutes prior.

Sometimes they sell out quickly. Other times not. It really depends on the offer (and probably how many people are on their phones or computers when the offer comes in).

I’d be interested in hearing about this one as well as I also fell for it. [popcorn.gif]

I was there also today Kris! And also picked up the mystery cab. I have some others I will post a bit later. But I did not do the mystery champagne.

In line with expectations this time.

I thought I'd try for the second Barolo offer today, the Manzone, but it was sold out 11 minutes after the time stamp of the e-mail.

Did you get multiple bottles all from the same vintage? I thought that offer was a mixed vintage i.e. you could get your allocation, but the vintages were a grab bag of multiple vintages

I've never tried a Den Hoed, but this seems like a great deal no? I purchased six of these and am excited to try them out.

The one I got, which was the same as kris, was all 2015. I assume that was the same for him?

I have never tried Den Hoed. Online it shows for going to close to 100 per bottle. So in that sense it is an amazing deal! Hard to believe when I taste it I will not also see it as a great deal. Others here have commented that it is a good to great wine.

Interesting. Just looked up the offer, "All of the bottles, regardless of vintage, are the same wine – just different vintages of the same wine (as an example, if the Mystery was Dunn Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and you ordered 6, you may receive the 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016" I read that as your allocation could be comprised of multiple vintages. Maybe they meant your allocation could come from any vintage, but all of it would be the same vintage, whatever that is

Hmmmm. I just looked at the offer and you are right. My paperwork suggests they are all 2015. I have not looked at all the bottles, so will report back when I do. And it does suggest that you could get multiple vintages with an order of 6, which mine was.

Opened 2015 Den Hoed Andreas tonight after pickup, if you are unhappy at $20 I would be floored, if you are thrilled it makes sense. Worth $100, no way, worth $50, yes. At $20, killer. Very balanced and true to what Cabernet should taste like.

I didn't buy the Mystery offer that turned out to be the Den Hoed Andreas, but at $20 that is a very good deal in any vintage. (Personal reference point: I've had the 2007 vintage, thrice.)

I would be interested, too, but since I badgered them into shipping my wines, I should be able to answer in a few days.

Sent them a long email complaining that the wines were sold on "be there in time for the holidays" and the most anyone had heard was, "hey, delays, you'll get it when your 'automatic shipping date' is scheduled." Apparently, the automatons respond to customer complaints.
