I have to admit, seeing the website say the status of my oder is "shipped" and not seeing the shipper receive the package yet is starting to drive me slightly nuts.
Agreed. After they emailed me saying they're done processing CA Marathon and seeing the GSO track I keep waiting for the notice that it was picked up but alas over a week and still nothing

The problem is they ship on a Temp controlled truck that does not show up on tracking until the lOCAL UPS truck gets it about 24 hours before delivery....

Can anyone tell me about the style? I’ve only had the 2011 and wasn’t a huge fan but...it was a 2011.

FWIW, if it comes up again, the Care Garnacha Nativa Vinas Viejas 2017 for $12 bucks is really damn good

I’ve had a “tracking number” for literally 5 weeks. Then I get an email at 6pm tonight that my Marathon shipment had finally just been picked up by FedEx.

I’m honestly pretty pissed that after all this delay they schedule a pickup for a Thursday afternoon/evening as these wines will now sit somewhere over the weekend with pockets of heat between Napa and Seattle.

I’ve definitely previously sworn off LB before due to their Marathon shipping issues but I’m definitely done now. As most others here I get a ton of wine shipped from a variety of sources and LB remains the only one who doesn’t ship on a Monday or Tuesday.

Honestly, I don’t care what the prices are for their Marathons anymore I just can’t understand their thought process (or lack thereof). Maybe I’m overreacting, but who risks d’Yquem and GC Burg sitting on a potentially hot FedEx truck or at a depot over a late May weekend?

This was my first marathon and I'm sure I'm not going to do an April Marathon again. Maybe in August or December when shipping will be in October/February.

I generally use the marathons for cellar protectors rather than cellar treasures, in part because of the shipping uncertainty.

The irony of course is how good LB shipping is the rest of the year.

My six bottles did show up in Illinois Wednesday, but btw.

Has anyone had ever had a bad shipment from Marathon (Spoiled or cooked wine) how does LBW handle these? I sent them an email asking what's up since it clearly been 6 weeks since Marathon and two weeks ago they said they were processing CA orders. We are now at Memorial Day weekend and the weather will consistently be north of 80.

I think they tend to package their shipments better than most and if you're in CA, the wine will be in transit for about 24 hours (probably less), so I think you'll be fine. I just got a shipment from Vinfolio yesterday (it was in the 80s) that was shipped on Tuesday, everything was in styro and under 72 degrees.

Hopefully.

FedEx/UPS usually takes 2 days and i get it very late on the 2nd day (after 6pm). I have a shipment (not LBW) that shipped Tuesday Night, and original ETA was last night before 9pm. However there was a "delay" and now it is supposed to be delivered by tonight. So 2 days in a truck + 1 day in warehouse. I'm a bit concerned...

GSO might be in one day but I guess i don't trust them anymore after they left alcohol packages outside the property gates on a Saturday after i spoke to them on Friday and they stated they'll redeliver on Monday.

Finally made my 1st purchase from this marathon - the Theorize Zin seemed like a solid value play, but the checkout process was so painfully slow as to make the whole process not really worth the trouble.
well, this was a bit disappointing. Not a bad wine, but surprisingly developed for a '14, and not at all what I was expecting.

I found the 2016 Theorize Zin undrinkable. Tutti frutti.

I wonder about the Theorize project. The wines are heavily discounted and, it appears, for good reasons. I had one of the Cabernets and it was overpriced at $30 (reduced from $80).

Interesting - my experience was that it had already lost most of it's fruit (and with it, most of its interest)

I've posted in the past about not caring when they ship. That was then, this is now. I posted that 4 weeks ago and noted that we had snow flurries that morning. Well my marathon order is 'pending shipment'. It was 86 degrees here today. I only have 3 bottles, for a total of less than fifty bucks. But that doesn't mean I want them delivered hot.

I ordered 4 bottles of the most recent ‘16 Lutum, which is the Rinconada vineyard. My wife and I really enjoyed the ‘16 Lutum Sanford and Benedict vineyard that Last Bottle offered back in April. Hope the Rinconada shows as well!

For those of us in California, this is what I got when I emailed them the status of the Marathon orders and the arrival of summer.

Sorry for the delayed response. Good news we should be getting most of our team back so we hope to catch up overall very soon.

California orders are being packed over these next two weeks. We did take into account the heat wave. So, although we are packing the wine we will not ship until we deem it safe for transit.

Current offer is the 2014 Evening Land Vineyards Pinot Noir La Source Seven Springs Vineyard, $39. I’m in for a six pack. Made a promise to my wife that I would make a “concerted effort” to buy more Pinot Noir and Champagne this year, and LastBottle is certainly making the Pinot piece pretty easy! Great Pinot noir deals the past several weeks! And the shipping has been flawless, next day via ground here in Penn’s woods.

Agree Pinot tends to be their strongest varietal.

Lutum a huge part of that but in recent weeks alone there have also been offers from Bien Nacido Estate, Fallia, Evening Land and other really, really good producers, almost all below $40.

Mine is also still pending. I emailed them to add ice to the shipment if they ship in this heat or better yet to hold for a shipping window. In CA they should only ship wine GSO where possible. I am not a fan of FedEx or UPS for delivering my wine.

That's a good question. I seem to get really good shipping rates from K&L for in state GSO shipments but I think we're also seeing handling charges added to shipping from wineries direct and that skews the cost of shipping. When it is available, I always request GSO (Golden State Overnight) for those not in the state.

If I may interrupt the marathon-shipping convo with an update on a marathon wine:

The 2013 Kenneth Volk Enz Zin is a major winner. It was $15-ish and is really, really good. On the elegant, softer side, but with plenty of great fruit and spice. Aging beautifully.

I've seen this one cycle through a few different times and I will pounce the next time it does.

I only bought it because I recognized the vineyard from the recent Bedrock release. Glad I did.

Received my marathon shipment yesterday. In NorCal, mid-peninsiula. Sure hope my yquem is in good shape!! At least they waited till the weather was cool to ship, even if it took forever.

Glad I did.
I believe you can email them and if they have any left, they’ll sell it. You don’t have to wait for it to pop up again.
Nice. I'll give that a shot.

Got notification that one of my marathon bottles shipped, 95 in Napa today. I had emailed them and requested ice if they were going to ship anytime soon and never got a response.

I've found their packaging to be quite good so far. If it's shipping GSO, I think it'll be fine, especially since it won't go out until late afternoon. Since it should be in stryo, if the bottle isn't warm when you get it, it never got warm since the styro would trap the heat in (if it ever got hot in the first place)... I could be wrong, but I think that's how it tends to work.

Bit on the 2018 Theorize. Need some wine for when I'm hosting non-wine people. Seemed decent based on 2016's CT reviews. Hopefully the 18 lives up the the vintage.

I agree good deal. 2018 good vintage and the 2016 was good. I bought some.
